You may be asking yourself what an A&R rep actually does. In the world of music the A&R people are very important components in the career of any artist seeking to blaze a path to stardom.

A&R stands for artist and repertoire.  In a recording company these individuals are responsible for auditioning and signing new talent to a record label.  For many artists this may be the most important person they will ever meet!  Currently in the music industry, the A&R department works very close to management on many different levels.  So how does this apply to you and the Platinum Plan at Music Forte?

The first step is deciding what the best options are for promotion.  You can advertise in hundreds of different free classifieds all over the Internet.  You can pay for advertising in small local music papers and magazines.  Word of mouth and great music go a long way when enough people find out you have a record label of your own.  There will be research to do and hurdles to get over, but once you have your connections together your sales stats should become more consistent as time goes on.  Choose your artists wisely, like any good A&R person does, and your label/storefront will gain popularity because you have the best artists available in music today!  Undiscovered talent that you will personally be responsible for making or breaking just by making the effort to back them in their career!  And the rewards are fantastic.  Personal pride in knowing you helped somebody become the best, as well as financial rewards and the respect of your peers!

There are a number of options to take in to account at this point.  You can offer to sell just cd’s for your artists using our expanded distribution networks. You can also build your own network using the various retail options available on the Internet.  You may even want to contact various retail outlets in your own city or town.  There are many small record stores that cater to a more diverse crowd than the majors do.  If you find one of these outlets, you can make a deal with your artist to supply a small inventory for sale in that store and agree on a percentage of those sales.
