I have to say Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy...great harmony guitar parts and some of the most tasteful guitar solos ever!!! Check out the solo to "still in love with you"

...Prince. He's only started to get respect in the music communtiy in the late 90's up until today. Not only as a guitarist, but also as a keyboard player as well.

BTW I have absolutely no shame in admitting I'm a Prince fan! Very Happy

Off that list I voted for Prince because he is Under Rated, but Trey? I would put him on an Over Rated list! Robin Trower definitely belongs on that list, but the #1 Under Rated of all time is.......

Jorma Kaukonen

Prince has got to be the most creative and inovative guitar player on that list.

I would have to say one of the most underrated guitar players out there is Alex Lifeson of Rush. I have seen that band numerous times over the years and Alex's playing is always perfection. I can't ever remember hearing even a single bad note...and his guitar riffs are technical gems..

Hands down... Prince. Guy can play circles around almost anybody on that list up there. Keith Richards shouldn't even be on that list.

I just don't like Prince, that's why I picked someone else.

He just gives me the creeps.

Me too, but he is friggin' talented. The choices where kinda limited really. I mean George Harrison was a great talent, wonderful guitarist, underrated as a Beatle for sure. Keith Richards (?) Don't think so. Not really in that league the way I see it. Alex Lifeson from Rush, now I can see that happening.

I don't really judge an artist on whether I like them personally or not. If I was to do that I may not pick anybody because they all have character flaws that might make someone not too comfortable around them. Along the same lines, it's the strangeness that makes them gifted. It's really a double edged sword, isn't it?

I always thought that Robbie Krieger of The Doors was never given the recognition he deserves in terms of his styling and songwriting ability.

Saw Prince in 82 great guitarist, listen to one of his early songs called Bambi. also in that same show he played over 20 different instruments, he's a one man music machine

the list of guitarists could go on and on ad infinitum I would say that from the list above I can definitely see Prince as one of the good guitarists but I think most people don't think of him as a guitarist because they watched his videos growing up and you didn't see him do much actual playing.. but media is misleading. Alex Lifeson- definitely, Steve Howe from Yes, Carlos Santana should be on the list , but one of the most amazing guitarists who unfortunately is no longer living was Michael Hedges- that guy did things with just an acoustic guitar that would blow your mind..in fact I think Steve Vai said Hedges was one of his personal choices for best..Is Jeff Beck still considered on mount Olympus or is he underrated and for the love opf God..somebody..please pull Keith down from the list just because we know all of his tunes doesn't mean he is actually good at playing them!

Being a guitarist myself, I don't see "Being able to play an A major chord while drunk or high" as an accomplishment worthy of praise- so unfortunately this is the HIGHEST level of achievement some of these guitarists on this list can boast..well maybe while stoned and jumping on a trampoline for Trey.. if music be the food of the Gods..then we are looking for someone who brought something to the table..not someone who drank us all UNDER the table! Smile
