Hi all,
This is an abbreviated post that I put 3 hours typing in on last night and lost. The short version, if you will.
If you would like some cool freeware, go to KVR Audio and register. I will list the synths that I use and think are the best, not all are at KVR but most are. Registration at the site is free and you only really need to register in order to get access to additional patched and sounbanks. Some of the banks are for costware, and some are for the freeware products that you can download at KVR. You can download the virtual instruments without registering.
http://www.kvraudio.com/ratings/0.html
To see the VSTi's, at the top right of the page, click on the text that says "Quick links are hidden, Click here to view". This will open up a viewing windo with 5 selections. Click on Quick Instrument links and a dropdown window will open with all the instruments available. The costware and the freeware are not separated (unfortunately).
My choices of the best:
Anything by HG Fortune, Great for the atmospheric and creepy film scoring that I do as well as some nice spatial effects
Swamp
ProtoPlasm
STS26
At Fortune's Homepage download http://www.hgf-synthesizer.de/
Protoplasm21
Wheel of Fortune 3
Other freeware synths
Cygnus-O (better GUI than Cygnus) http://www.krakli.co.uk/
Don't forget to download the extra presets on the same page.
Go here and get the KarmaFX Synth http://www.karmafx.net/
From KVR also download
Crystal (Extra soundbanks at KVR if you register)
Albino Demo (extra presets)
Massive Demo - by Native Instruments
Octopus Demo - by Linplug
Any or all of the KILLER synths by NovaKILL (i.e HopeKiller, LoveKiller etc).
ILOSynth -1 (Go to the author's page for extra presets)
Foorius is not a bad synth - has some nice voices
Mr Ray Seventy Three if you're looking for some cool keyboard and jass sounds
Oatmeal
Ganymed
This ought to be enough for starters. More to come later. Also check out
http://www.plugindex.de/downloads
And get
GTG Sputnik 2000 (GTG also makes drum products too)
NutSeg for electronic perc, Nice little VSTi
and there are more, but this is the best I can do for the second go round on this post.
I use all these synths, some more than others, but I recommend them all, and after all, they are free and if you don't happen to like them, then just delete them

You're not losing it. I thought I should post it for what it is rather than have it missed in what started as a rant post. Maybe more people will find it here.
