What is the measure of success? I have an isound player that has over 196,000 plays on it, but this has not generated one single mp3 sale. Am I a failure? Does this mean my music sucks? What about storing your riches in HEAVEN? If your music is heard and liked by enough people and they know how to reach you, then you have built a fan base and can make your money playing shows and selling merch at said shows. Use the celebrity that you create. I as a fan, would be more likely to pay ten dollars for an autographed cd at a show that i just had a great time at, then have to pay one dollar with my credit card for a mp3 that if i wait long enough, I can get for free one way or another. And yea, if I can put two or three songs for sale on ten different sites for free, and spread my publicity around, why would I fork out thirty bucks for the platinum package on one, when each site has different free stuff?

Music Forte is a distribution store. Unlimited everything for 30 lousy bucks. They don't take one freaking dime if you sell an Mp3, as silly as that is.

Greg spends hundreds on a server that could handle more traffic than you can throw at it. That's why it's worth it!

Publicity for what? To whom? For free? Doubt that it has any value. You can have 100 million plays, just like I have been telling people for four years now (right Greg?) and it don't mean dick. You can put all of the free stuff around you want, but if you don't have eight arms and legs to manage the traffic, you are wasting your time. Plus that, the majority of places you throw music is nothing more than a big circle jerk for other musicians. No value there. Unless you need some advice, and even that is suspect most of the time.

Getting people to "buy" is an art form my friend. Just as much of an art form as your music. Getting people to buy on the Internet is the Holy Grail of the industry. People are too blind to understand how to get that done. They won't listen to someone who knows how to do it. But they will someday.

I'll be on my yacht in the Pacific with a fishing pole in my hand and a naked woman on my lap when they decide to get with it. So I'll be happy. Technically, at that point I won't give a rats ass. lol

That is my measure of "success". What's yours? If you can't answer that, then you will never find a path to take you there. My measure isn't the gauge... Yours is.

They will not pay for your music or download it for free unless they know about you and what your music sounds like. They are not actively looking for new music, they have to be fed it.
