Ra Ra Riot The Rhumb Line
4/5 stars (lighters)
For all of you who have not caught on to the Ra Ra Riot craze, there is little to tell other than the story of the tragic death of their drummer (John Ryan Pike) last year. They just released their new album, which was co-written by Pike, and named it after a bar (The Rhumb Line) which was close to Pike’s home in Massachusetts. As it would be, the general tone of the album is filled with images of melancholy and death, but Ra Ra Riot combines elements that are both bitter sweet and dramatic which in a sense give the album life.
“Ghosts Under Rocks” stands out musically wise because of the talent that is presented through the unique style of the cello and violin. “Dying is Fine” carries you lyrically through the song because of the sincere touch that they gave to it and it ultimately launches you into a serene and peaceful state of mind. This album clearly demonstrates that Ra Ra Riot belongs on the circuit and deserves loyal fans because of their passion for life and music. The pure talent that these fine young musicians contain is seen in every track that they produce while leaving every ounce of emotion for their gifted writing skills. |
