Now that I have your attention, a welcome to all new visitors to Music Forte and those contemplating joining. Here are a few interesting tidbits for your consideration. These numbers are all based on my personal accounts: Data gathered up until 12/24/2006:
Before you say "Hold on, you only have 4 songs on MySpace and 9 on Musicforte" do the math: 1901 * 2.25 (9/4) = ca. 4277. MusicForte still beats MySpace hands down, and that with almost a 4 weeks difference in join dates. And consider this: My average profile views per day are 10 for MySpace and 7.6 for Music Forte. Considering MySpace has now over 140,000,000 members and Music Forte about 37,413 (registered forum members) winner by points would again be Music Forte. Ergo if you're lookig to really expose your music to a truly interested audience you simply cannot pass up Music Forte.

Hi Dave,
Most definitely. Please feel free to use this post as you see fit to promote Music Forte. The more musicians see the benefits the better.
All the best wishes and much success to Music Forte and all of us for 2007.

| I have had the same experience as far as listens go, even though far more people know about MySpace than Music Forte. I was ready to kill my MySpace site altogether except that I recently got a publishing contract where someone found me through MySpace. |

Testimonial now posted on the home page.

Hail Alternatewords truth in more than words.
Besides promotional value, myspace.com is a joke for aspiring and
ambitious indie musicians.
It is a good starter. But thats it.

Talk about a joke, Myspace is now letting artists sell their music, but it cost's you around .45 per song, and the only way to add the selling part to your site is to paste the code into your myspace page.
Why bother if it's not built into the site ? Also with over 1,500 friends we can not send an email to all of them at the same time as Myspace limits your account to 500 actions a day. Music Forte is a much better place to build your fan base and sell your music.
Just my 2 cents |

Okay, I'll play devils advocate...... Myspace is a great place to promote, network and all that kind of thing. I think having a myspace page is cool too because there are a lot of members that "might" just stumble accross your music. (Chances are slim, but it has happened to me so.....) Plus, you can always throw on a link to your MF site. I know I have one.
As for a "MUSIC" site. This is my favorite place to talk music, post music, and generaly "Promote" my music. If you don't believe me.......
http://SamDrummerBoy.com
Go take a look.
I could walk away from Myspace........ Not Musicforte. "It's All About The Music" after all.......

My Space has positive areas and good things can happen there.
We don't want to pick MySpace appart - we want to promote Music Forte.
Alot of our members have sites on both- if you have the time I would recomend you use both.
Get your name and your MF URL out there in every place you can.
Remember - MySpace is not bad - we are just better - much better for the indie musicians. |

Yep. If you want to sound like somebody else (and that's what the majors like, wannabes, I USED to want to be like someone, THEN I grew up....) you can do REALLY well there.
Other than that, it's just another avenue for aspiring musicians that corporate America took over.
And then, just like corporate America,
IT LOST ALL OF IT'S FLAVOR.
Think of having to serve a boss that's disinterested, in a world of numbers, with little peppy people all around you telling you that you sound like you have "A case of the Mondays" (Office Space, Mike Judge, I love you, man!) while you pump out 75 jams, only to have two of them make the cut, while you're forced to do 10 tracks that Jack Buttsmoker wrote because "they fit your GENRE".......... all from your little cubicle walls......
Corporate America, ask EVH, he knows. That's why he quit.
And THAT, my friends, is:
THE WORD.
Yes, Mr Bacal, I'll taste majors again one day, but, like any REAL man,
ON MY OWN TERMS.
And take Universal with you. I will never, EVER sign that piece of s***. Get a bertter deal, and tell them to call me LATER, with some REAL numbers. |

There's definitely value in having a large database, but look who it has benefited the most. I'd say Google. They were willing to pay $900 Million for exclusive rights to present search & contextual ads on their site.
MySpace is an advertising revenue business. As such a large business (over 106 million registrants), there's a lot of weight to pull. Maybe they just got heavy, making it more difficult to move forward rather than expand outward.
That's probably why their digital distribution (that was mentioned above by TL), is "cautious" at the very least. |
