I have a fairly low voice, however, I would like to be able to hit some notes even lower still. If you've ever heard Josh Turner, I can hit pretty much all of the low octave notes he hits, and on good days I can hit them all. So my questions are, why does my voice range change from day to day, and what techniques can I use to help train my voice to hit those low notes more consistently?

just do lots of arpeggios. you can hum them, which will help your voice's strength, or you can sing them, which will help your voice's sound. you'll go as low as you can go for, say, 10 reps, and then go a note lower. same with the highs.

after doing this every day for 700 years, you might expand your range a bit.

If you're trying for the perfect opera voice then yes by all means do exercises....but i believe that even the best singing can come out when you have a cold and your voice is the most unstable......Go with what you have and be proud of it and by all means if ya feel the need, improve improve improve......Those exercises that the previous post suggested is probably the best way to do what you would like to achieve......Chasin' Insane

Even if you don't sing opera or musical theatre or any of that s***... it's still a really, really good idea to learn technique and not ruin your voice, you might want to consider springing for a couple voice lessons if you're really invested in this whole singing thing, it'll help a lot. Get suggestions from friends that sing regularly about who would be the best teacher around though, and the standard price is about 30 bucks an hour at least where I am.
