Hi all,
Just posted a new spacey jazz cut with my wife collaborating on some piano work - called On the Edge of Blue. Hope you can find it and take the time to listen Who knows, maybe it will even hit the jazz top 20!

I have made it easy. Turn off the player on my profile page. Scroll down to the Pod-O-Matic player window, hit play. It is the first song.
That's if you really want to hear the cut.
And BTW - this is a strong argument in favor of at least having an alphabetic sort 'option' in the player windows. Or in the alternative, make it so people can hear the sale songs from the songlist window (I can't figure out how to do that without paying) which is already sorted alphabetically.

Gave it a listen....... I was going to say something about the timing......... Ummmmm yeah you did say "Turn" OFF the MF player yeah so anyway...... I was listening to 2 songs at the same time.......... Okay, so I'm stupid or something... Even that didn't sound bad I assume the songs were in the same key, and also about the same tempo..... Gave me some interesting ideas..... But thats all beside the point......
When I listened to it by itself....... It's pretty much exactly what you said...."Spacey piano music"
What is it for? Did you do it for a movie? (I saw your doing a lot for movies. VERY COOL ) Or just kind of easy listening thing?
Good production! All your production is great! How much is samples? How much was micced miked miced micro-ph........ I don't know exactly how to ask that????

Hi Sam,
Glad you took the time to listen. As for samples, I don't know how you would consider Stylus RMX. It is packaged percussion sample program, but I use it interactively. The program has a drag and drop function so I could, if I chose, drag and drop and repeat segmented samples. But the program has 8 percussion selectors for various drum types and rhythms and what I usually do is record the percussion in a 'What U Hear' mode directly to a stereo audio track. Although this particular cut does not have as much percussive variance as others that I have done, I think the perc line suits the piece. I choose how many of the 8 settings I want to fill and then hit record. Once record is engaged I turn the switches on and off for the individual percussion lines as I lay down the track - which I think gives the percussion a more 'live' feel. So even though I am using a sampled percussion pack, there is still the human element involved in my recording.
As for the synths, that's all what the loop crowd calls 'live' keys. I play the synth and create my progression. The synth playing is almost always like this in my work. Even the gated parts are done with live keys, and it can sometimes be quite a bitch to manually sync everything to fit by adjusting my midi tracks.
I did another cut after On the Edge of Blue, called Cervantes' Windmill that should show up soon as the first cut in the Podomatic player window -which you might like. it has a lot of percussive elements, done the same way as described above, that as a drummer, you might appreciate. At least I hope so.
The song is also uploaded here at MF.
Hope all this info helps clarify how I do my music. And I really do appreciate the interest!
Dave
