Hey friends
I've just recorded and uploaded my new song called Listen which I wrote a few weeks ago. The reason I wrote it was because I was playing Raglan Rain (a very quiet laid back song) at Barossa Bar one night and othe than 20 or so people in the bar no on else was interested in the music at all and I was disappointed and wondering why I was bothering to play.
So I wrote this song.
The other niht when I was out dancing with your wife
She told me a thing or two about how you live your life
Now I could write ten songs or more
About your trouble and strife
Have I got your attntion now, this could be a long night.
Hope you guys will come and have a listen:)

Hey,
I know how that is exactly (not the wife, part).
I had a regular job in a "red-neck" town (nothing against rednecks). The bar owner wanted to try something different and have just solo piano and vocals.
He wanted a more intimate performance, so I'd play some piano ballads, a few up-tempos. Nonetheless, it was all piano, and the crowd wasn't used to it.
One guy even shouted out "Freebird" while I was playing "Your Song". It was uncomfortable, but at the end of the night, he'd give me nice payment of $600.
Playing solo has it's benefits!!!
Now... I'm off to listen to YOUR song. The lyrics grabbed my attention. |

I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from on this!! I live here in "the South" of the US- (ie- lots of rednecks)- now I like rednecks- no problems at all- some of them are good friends. BUT- I'm playing the instrumental guitar-rock stuff and some acoustic stuff (when I DO play live- which is not often) I am SO tired of having someone screaming for "Freebird" or Allman Brothers- although I like these bands and they have helped influence me and my playing I have to say that I find it completely rude to scream out for ANOTHER artist's song when a band or artist is playing. Know what I mean? I recall a couple years ago I saw Steve Vai (awesome show) I drove 3 hours and booked a hotel JUST to see this show and 3/4 of the way through I left because a bunch of drunken idiots were screaming for "Partridge Family songs" or "Kum-Bay-Ya" or "Michael Rowed The Boat" during the acoustic set. I had asked these morons to kindly show some respect for the artist- but it was turning ugly.. so I turned to my wife and said "we've had enough -before I plank this idiot". I think Vai would understand..LOL.
On the other side of the coin, when NOBODY seems to acknowledge that you are even IN the room- let alone playing music.. man, that's a major bummer.. I understand that in some situations you are considered nothing more than "background music"- but I'm bleeding my heart out, my fingers are all cut up from the strings..the LEAST they could do is clap! Of course- in this situation in only makes me want to TURN IT UP LOUDER AND GRAB THEIR ATTENTION. Oh- and another thing that gets to me- sometimes you just have to tune a little and some guy starts cheering at you TUNING YOUR GUITAR..(umm- folks..this is a pretty boring thing to cheer about..) makes me wonder about the guy doing the cheering- is he daft?? maybe he's bombed?? who knows?? hmmm. |

can be discouraging
some say it's a sign to
just give up
like, if you were in demand, you'd
be getting different feedback
from the universe
