Probably anything will do it. If you've got a DVD drive on your computer, you should have some way of changing the "recording input" to what's in your DVD drive. It'll grab the audio directly.

If you don't have a DVD player on your computer, you'll have to go the old fashioned way and stick a mic up to the speaker. Razz

Go into your sound properties and in the record one select stereo mix and just about any audio recording software will capture "What You Hear"(as it is sometimes called).......Be careful doing this tho as what ever audio is on a dvd is copyrighted stuff so.......you can copy for private use but it could get hairy if you want to use audio clips in a tune or something.......

If you do it that way, is it analog then back to digital? I feel really dumb if not. I went and found a program to do it Embarassed ......

It did make me a killer audio copy (completely digital) of The Wall. There are a few songs in the movie that are not on the album, and a few different versions of songs. I can't remember the program I used, but it also Tracked and named every file. So, that was cool.

I am not sorry I went and searched out a "digital audio extractor from dvd" (I'm pretty sure that was the google search.), but "WOW" it would have been so much easier to do it "that way". I did go try doing it the way you suggested..... So I know it actually does work. It won't track it for you though, and you may end up having to do a lot of editing.

Okay now I'm just rambling........

I LOVE THE WALL!!!! rockon rockon rockon

Yeah you will have to name every track yourself....But that only applies to whomever wants to do something like you did, grab an entire soundtrack from a movie...there are easier ways than my first suggestion to do that....but if you just want clips the other way is the way to go....And when you record anything with a computer it is digital.....So if you pop a cd/dvd in your drive and rip audio from it is stays digital......If you go from a vcr tape its starts analog and then to digital.....I'm sure you understand what I am saying Laughing ......

And by the way the best software I have found to do this capture is Adobe Audition (Cool edit for the older versions)....But I spose any Audio capture software will work...Just make sure it does not record it in mono.....(Plus with audition you can choose what format and bit rate to save the clip as)

Steinberg's Wavelab is very intuitive, even more user-friendly than Audition or Cool Edit in my opinion.

But this is something that I expressed to Greg and the gurus quite a while back, that this presents a possible workaround that will make paid downloads unnecessary. Just play back the song you like, and with your recording properties set to stereo mix, just click on record and then stop. Then edit out the idle or blank sections at the start and end. Voila, you have got yourself a free digital copy of the song. I think now that the move toward showing only preview tracks in the standalone player (in addition to the free full-stereo songs you designate) is a step in the right direction. Cool

Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Don't tell everyone how to steal my music.......... Oh wait, my music on here is free and no one wants it Laughing Laughing Laughing .......... Nevermind Rolling Eyes At least I think it's good!!!! Cool

It does bring up an interesting point though, How often does this happen? There's no way to tell at the internets point of view is there? When someone is recording that way it's not detectable? (I'm assuming)

So........ If you thought you could make money selling tunes on the internet, you better not let them stream anywhere in their entirety (Is that a word? I think it is......)

Hmmmmmm Maybe just maybe........ people all over the world are huge fans of mine. They listen to just my songs 24/7. I'm sure it's possible......... Cool Cool

Yeah, whatever Rolling Eyes

Is there any way to not let it be recorded? Like when the right click disapeared?????? Wink

Wow, I'm going to be thinking a lot about this now.

Later

Sam

Man, sorry about the post. (Should've made it private.) But I'm afraid featuring only lo-fi preview/teaser tracks on the player is the way to go, as many other music sites have done. But musicforte aims to be a trailblazer and is not an imitator and I respect that. Everybody is happy. Then again maybe the player can stream only low-bitrate versions but still in stereo so we can enjoy our favorite mf artists's songs in continuous playlists. Then you can always single out particular tracks you like and pay to download the full hi-fi versions the usual way. Cool

Ya know....I've known about that for many many years and I was not going to say anything to give anyone any ideas but the word is out now....hehe......I am sure it happens quite a bit actually....Where there is a will there is a way I always say. Regardless if the tune is streamed in lo-fi the hi-fi version if on the server can be got very easily for the person with the know how. I guess in situations like this, and this comment might tick a few of them off, it all boils down to integrity and honesty. For those who "steal" the music rather than pay the buck to download it, well, I have a few words to describe ya but are not appropriate here, to put it mildly, shame on you. If you really wanna carry the tune to work with ya and show your buds, spend the buck and help a man/woman out with their efforts. It's not cheap for us to make good quality tunes for you to enjoy so why rob us. Spend the buck and help us buy a better guitar, mic, what-have-you to make it even better. Or if you really feel the need to steal a tune or two why not drop a tip in the tip jar (reverse psycology for folks with the I.D.10.T syndrome hehe). No more ranting on that one for now. I'm done for the moment.

I wonder what would MHB say to a sitch like this. Man do I miss that guy in these forums.
