College radio is taken for granted.... Why? At least twice per month, I remix some of my metal tracks into electronica/techno grooves, and submit them to college stations. These kids are desperate for good music, and love anything that isn't played on traditional commercial/barter radio.
BTW, I was also a candidate for "Mixdown Artist of the Year" on one station, 91.1 WRVU at Vanderbilt University. Theyu are really good people, and personal friends of mine.
Most of the shows take .MP3 files, burn them on to CD, and play them as-is, it really couldn't be easier.

We are already putting together a plan for the College stations to make money through our comprehensive programs to sign up bands via the radio stations at their schools. We have been in contact, and have had positive responses to your proposals.
Another area that is underserved. Thanks for the thought MHB. |

 I like sending stuff to college radio stations and what I suggest is bands find out about the station first.
Find out what they play and see if there is a DJ that majors in a certain style.
Sometimes the best way is to just really promote your stuff and if a DJ from a college radio hears of you and request your stuff send them something.
Often it works better near where you play alot.
If you are touring regularly in certain towns those towns college stations are more prone to play you because your coming.
When I was going to be in Beloit I sent the college radio station a CD and he played it a couple times before I got there. |

WOW. This is excellent news that a plan is being put together for the college scene. It is is a program that will broaden everyone's horizons.
I was networking to put in progress a plan on my own. but if you are working on one that gives me great confidence of success.
Thanks

Yes we are currently putting a plan together for MASSIVE college paricipation in promotions.
It does take time to make the sales calls. Our staff will be getting that started sometime soon, so give it time to develop.
Thaks for the input for sure! |

Yes... It is a process though, and NOT an event. So be prepared to give us the latitude to create this new market for you. It is a sales job, and takes some negotiations to get is usable. Have patience with us, and the colleges. They are new to this concept that we are approaching them with, and it takes understanding to get them 100% on board. Believe me when I say it WILL happen! This is the greatest thing going for them, and us for that matter. We just have to convince them. lol
(And trust me, I know how to do just that...lol) |

| College radio is an excellent venue for indie artists to showcase their music. Many stations are eager to acquire fresh material to complete playlists, and to satisfy the musical appetites of the student body. |

Hi
We are in australia and would like to submit our music to college radio stations, any ideas as to how and whom to conatct , can you submit via the net? I think college radio networks are a very valuable resource in this Industry, its the young people you have to get online too!!
I am in the process of getting a tour together for the group in the U.S of A
in June July 2007, love to hear from anyone with some advice towards this, I believe there are also some online people that submit the music for you however, again, this comes at a price!
greetings from OZ

Shoulder shrugging. Google "university of" and pick a few. You'll probably want to go with schools that have a very large population, and also schools that seem to be targetting the arts (rather than targetting studious history majors, for example).
If you get a list of such stations that accept you, let me know.

Probably somebody somewhere will accept your submissions online. Probably just as many (or more) who insist that you mail a hard copy. |

Hi!
I'm also interested in submitting music to college radio stations.
I wish there were mp3 submissions too.
Nowadays it seems like it would make the most sense!
NPR 90.7 Fordham university in NY has something called "All songs considered" that accepts mailed in cd's. I would post the link, but this forum isn't allowing me to post links yet!
I'll check back here to see if there are any others posted and I'll also post if I find any others.
thanks
