Don't get me started on this subject.
Quit whining about spam! It is the nature of the business of being on the Internet and it will never stop, even under threat of the death penalty! It is a fact of life, deal with it.
If you are publicly using the Internet, and you put your email address all over the place, expect spam. You know what it looks like, you know the difference between an ad for dick cream and a legit email, so grow up! Delete the damn thing, it ain't no big deal. Especially when you are doing business for Christ's sake. All this spamalator software garbage is more of a problem then spam is. If you are in business, and you make people jump through hoops to contact you, then it is like having a store with a clear piece of glass in front of the door that your customers smash their faces on before you know they are there. It's stupid to operate that way if you are in business!
I have many business email accounts, I don't get THAT much spam! Of course, if you don't bother looking at an email address for 3 months, I guess you would be overwhelmed. Just get rid of the useless hotmail accounts and all the other accounts you hardly use, what do you need 50 accounts for anyway? Just have one, that keeps it manageable. I have had gmail accounts that get 1000's of spam emails in it. Why? Because that is what the account is for. ANY time I sign up for some site I am not sure of (and you know which ones those are), I use that account. Then I could care less who does what, and every once in awhile I go clean it up. No big deal.
Unless you work for the CIA, or are some sort of secret agent, drop all the secret handshakes and spam assassinator junk get used to the idea that spam is here to stay and quit bitching about it! I never seemed to get over when I have a computer repair job on a guy, who lives by himself, etc., and he has passwords and crypto all over his computer. Very strange. Unless you are a perv, then I guess you have something to hide.

Up until June of 06 myspace's agreement read: "You hereby grant to MySpace a non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense through unlimited levels of sublicensees) to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, publicly perform, publicly display, store, reproduce, transmit, and distribute such Content on and through the Services."
Crazy huh? What about this site? I didnt read the agreement, but I suggest everyone allways read it. |

We do our best to protect against spam bots.
But if an artists publicly posts their email address on any public internet site, they should expect that those little spider-guys are going to sweep the site and pick up whatever they can.
This only applies to information that is presented on your profile pages for everyone to see. If it is not on a public link, then there isn't much to worry about.
Take a look at how our classified ads hides the email address for protection:

This is pretty good protection, but nothing is ever full-proof anywhere. |

| But, I think all indie music sites, if they have a forum, should allow self promotion on at least one or two boards. I mean, how else are small nobody bands going to get the word out? |
