I was wondering if it were possible to sign up for digital distribution
through eMusic if you are already receiving digital distribution on
CDBaby. I think eMusic offers Sony, but CDBaby does not, while
there is some overlap (iTunes). I'm not clear about the 'contract'
situation with CDBaby. I don't think they asked for exclusivity.
I can research this further, but for now was wondering if anyone
else is in a similar situation. So, if I signed up with eMusic I would need
to delete everything from CDBaby (due to the exclusivity of the eMusic
contract)?

Hi Fabrika,

I don't know what CDBaby's contract reads on this. But I can tell you the stance that eMusic takes. If we send them something that they already have, they just throw it out.

They never assign two digital distribution labels to one artist. This has happened to us many times in the past; when we have submitted an artist to eMusic, and they simply told us they are already being represented by CDBaby.

I imagine that having to sift through artists to discover who might be a duplicate is unwanted work for both eMusic and CDBaby, and a possible that is the reason CDBaby has this rule. If they were to send eMusic a thousand artists who were already in the eMusic "library", it would turn out to be quite a waste of time for both CDBaby and eMusic.

If you know you are not already in eMusic's database, please feel free to jump on board with Music Forte!
