I have a strange idea on how to promote your Music Forte Site.

Let's say for example, that people compare you to George Strait.

I have a page where I sell his CDs thru Amazon.com --

You tell me what people say about You and George, and I add that info to my sales page for George.

Then, when people Google the name George Striat, they just might find YOUR link to Music Forte...............

Garth Brooks, George Strait CDs at Amazon.com
http://roycehamm.tripod.com/musicmoviesvideogames/id10.html

Well that might work a bit but first you have to get some people to your site that write reviews. comments are nice but most of the times, those comments are very general in nature, they say little to nada about the music in any detail to provide anyone something to use to figure out what you are doing.

I often think Music Forte is not the place for the style of music we do. We are just not main stream types.

You're high...

Music Forte is about distribution. I have been trying to hammer that home, but it is like talking to a wall. What kind of music you make has no bearing on Music Forte, they just give you a place sell it from. Your fans are up to you. That's the way it is, for real. All genres can sell from here.

There is only 12 notes man, so many ways you can say "I love you" or "I hate you." That is the only subject music ever covers, so what makes you so different?

The only exception is electronica, and that takes a special type of person to appreciate it. Still, that has no affect when it comes to Music Forte, so I have no idea where you are coming from with that statement.

Not usually. People usually just say my music is "unique" or "unusual" or "weird" or some such thing. I've built a little page of some of the more complimentary quote. Click here to check it out.

If people ever compare me to other artists, it's usually people like Frank Zappa... really weird & original stuff. Someone even said my vocals sound like the guy from the B-52s. Laughing

Here's what I like to say about my music when introducing it to others in casual conversation:

The music sounds a bit like Bjork and John Linnell (from They Might Be Giants) got together and had a baby, but then it got orphaned in some terrible accident, only to be picked up and raised by Tool.

MF all about distro? Hum, no here in this camp. Main distro for us is CD Baby, cd sales and downloads via iTunes. Always has been since day one.
Again, I think it really depends on the style of music you do. US, MF does not cut it in the distro channel. I think MF has more fans towards other styles that what we do. Look at the stats, the top what ever, all something other than. Really, it is more about picking the place to put your music up, who else is there doing something closer, than one place.

Same is true of myspace. I have more results with myspace than any of the other places we have visited or even poped up a page.

Of course, that is not to say, MF does not have cd sales, downloads and such, just does not fit what we do. If it did, I would know about it more.

Do I have to spend anytime with CD Baby for cd sales? There is not a interactive place there. What about downloads? Well, using iMixes for iTunes, we managed to get some activity there. All the other download places, nill. Unless you want to talk napaster or rhypodsy, such rip offs they are, music types like use gather fractions of a penny from what they do.

You are on crack.

CD Baby doesn't sell a damn thing. If you sold anything from random users, please show us the money, I don't believe it. And every time I ask somebody to show us the stats, they get mad. Know why? It's all BS. You don't know have a clue "distro" really is. So you think placing your random mp3's and music on websites is distribution? Not hardly.

You think music websites get fans for your music? Now I KNOW you are on crack. Music websites are ALL musician circle-jerks, just a bunch of us hanging out out patting each other on the ass. Sales are done in the field, or through advertising and a lot of fan core building and very hard work. I get tired of saying the same crap over and over, but I guess it is necessary. CD Baby IS NOT DISTRO! It is a facilitator, a storefront, THAT"S IT!!!! Music Forte does the same bit. If you can't sell your music it is because you are trying to click your mouse and become a star, and it won't happen.... EVER! Get in the trenches and do the footwork, then you you will sell music eventually. Hire a manager, let them guide you in the right direction. But if you plan on pulling pud in front of computer screen and have an expectation of selling more than a small amount of music, you will live in a constant state of disappointment.

I worked for this company (Music Forte) for quite while, they don't sell CD's? News to me. They don't facilitate music sales? News to me. I think you very misguided. They have the same storefront facilities that CD Baby has, same damn thing. Nobody charges you one dime to sell an Mp3 from here, not one penny do they take.

You have to sell your music to an audience who wants to buy it, nobody sells it for you... ANYWHERE. That is the difference between artists who have real distribution and those who have no clue. And if you want real distribution, you are either going to have to pay for someone to market you properly, or you will have to hustle yourself, but that is always on you.

I am tired of this argument because you have no ammunition, and you are screwing up this thread whining about how great CD Baby is. So knock it off. If you don't like Music Forte, go back to CD Baby, nobody holding the door closed that I can see.

If you cant sell your own music, maybe it is not that great to begin with. Write something better.

"Main distro for us is CD Baby"

They probably get a lot of sales from activity here on Music Forte.
A lot of Music Forte's artists promote their CD baby links here on Music Forte.
I would guess this is probably due to the fact that they were already using CD Baby before they found Music Forte.

They should take a good look at our Gold plan.
A one time fee of $30 as opposed to CD Baby's album storage fees etc. etc.

The Gold Plan even pays artists referral fees when other artists join the Gold plan after seeing the artists' site.

Check out my Amazon link to YOUR CD at
http://roycehamm.tripod.com/
Click on 'Electronica' on the navigation bar on thr left of the screen.

You will also find a discription of Music Forte's Gold plan on the title page.

wow, sore nerve?

true oh so true, CD Baby is where we sell a lot of CD and downloads, mostly downloads.

The way you write (your on crack) big turn off, makes you sound like a teen with a problem. You work for MF, or you mean you paid MF to get your title? Is this your only avenue?

Stats, easy, just go to itunes and do a compare of popular tracks.
other than that, what are you expecting me to do, give you my login into CD Baby. Such sillyness from a susposed AR professional?

Bottom line, I petty anyone who listens to you or belives in what you are saying. Such negative remarks from someone who is there to help.

needless to say, I am not happy to know you

not to mention, I won't be sending anyone MF way as long as those like you work here. no small wonder we don't see any thing much from MF.

Something you might not know and I know, it's not 100%. CD Baby has a page you can check where the visitor comes from. while this does not show iTunes sales, I do not show a link on MF for iTunes, but CD Baby, perhaps. I will check as I don't even remember what that page looks like anymore. Anyway, any visitor from any site to CD Baby to the pages we have there, it's in the stats. So what do I see number one most months? MySpace. Our main web site. Digifreq.com (paid ad there) and several forums on yahoo and private. Music Forte is about 40 on that list, seldom.
2 hits from this post number musicforte.com/forums/post-17176.html
that is the first on the list as I just looked at it from here. go look the date is Thu Mar 08, 2007 1:17 pm. One of the few times I posted a link to CD Baby from here.
Now do tell me, why MF if my sales are coming from other directions?

Sure I expect this site to be gathering in people. I don't expect to spend 40+ hours working it. Is this what the AR people are saying?

My results are not as much as I would like, however, I know what is working. Not a big guess as I think the other bonehead here is trying to say. His big image in his taq line sort of tells you something huh?

not on topic but I am sure maybe some here might want to gather, compare notes and work a bit more in a postive manner.

I had this group, for abuot 5 years, I am on 111 yahoo groups, I own or moderate 25% of those. One is for Alesis for their ION and Micron line of synths. Another is for Korg for the MS2000 and Microkorg. Anyway, I took a group I had for a while, changed it to something useful for music types to talk about, compare notes and do something other than guessing about how to sale their music.

Places like Music Forte, CD Baby, Myspace, Facebook and so on will be also topics there. We all want to know what works and does not. Sure not all styles work the same but the core is there.

here is the spill

Serious Musicians Serious_Musicians@yahoogroups.com

One may ask, what is a serious musician? Let us look at how that is
defined.
Serious means: "Deeply interested or involved" and "Too complex to be
easily answered or solved"
Musician means: a person who makes music a profession, esp. as a
performer of music. Also any person, whether professional or not,
skilled in music.

Put the two together means: Deeply interested or involved with a
musical profession that has some problems that are too complex or
easily solved, requiring great thought.

Problems? Problems for the purpose of this group would be:
How to be heard. How to get your music out to be purchased. How to
sell. How to get airplay. How to be visible. How to work with labels,
publishers and others to help you succeed as a musician. And so on in
the same track.

What this group is not about, slamming labels, OS(s), brands, people
and other negative things that just get in the way of our making
music. Sure, we will point out some problems in all of the areas.
Just we will want to keep it even handed, find lesions to learn from
as well as alternatives plus solutions.

We are open to publishers, labels, record sellers, writers,
composers, all types of music. All those who want to push their music
to a level of profit so they can focus on making more music.

We are not open to spammers, negative people and those who seek to
pirate our hard work.

We want open informative constructive ideas and methods to succeed in
this business.

The group is moderated. Every new member or those who have never
posted a on topic post, bio or something that confirms them as a
person not a spammer, is in moderation for the first few posts.
Spammers will be banned. If you get a virus that posts for you, no
big deal, just contact the moderators and we will look into it. If
your mail bounces and Yahoo flags this, yes we will remove you.
Again, no big deal, just join back up. Yahoo is full of problems. We
will work around them.

If you have suggestions, comments or things you like to see, why not
email us first if you think it would be controversial or cause a
problem. Let us look before you hit the whole group.

Those who do not like a ton of email set your account to digest mode
or no email. Come visit us for ideas and information.

Labels and Publishers, even sellers of CDs and downloads, both
commercial and private, please keep your posts on such topics to a
min. Do not post more than twice a day your latest item for sale.
Spread it out. Use some common sense. We are here to get our music
raised to a higher level. We need you but we do not want you to take
the place of the spammers.

Ask me about groups to note your iMixes for iTunes, synth programming
techniques, composers work shops and so on. Sure, some of that will
fly here but there are better places with people there that would be
more willing to read and help you out.

spill end

what worries me now, if the posts back I seen here on my comments, esp. those negative ones. Why would I or anyone reccomend coming here when it is so negative? All we want to do is sell our music.
