radio air play

Internet or over the radio air waves?

What we do.

We examine the internet radio sites that play, podcasts or those who are working indie wise. If they are playing the styles we do or similar. We contact them. We establish a friendship. We also work with them in what ever way they need to get our work. Be it a FTP site, email or web link to gather.
Not done yet, we then find out when they are going to play us. We post that to several groups for music types, myspace and blogs. Requesting fans or anyone who might be inclined to listen, to tune in.
Not done yet, we then do a follow up or keep in close contact.

Radio, over the air. Again we have to id who plays our style. We then look up the submission policy and comply with that. Music Forte use to have a place in the member area for a listing. I do not see that any more.

We then do the same, tell everyone we are being played at, we follow up.

Right now, we work with one podcast and one over the air radio for our new releases. By chance, they happen to both be in the EU.

Notice I said, EU. It seems for the styles we play, the EU is a natural play for us. A good deal of our fans are also in the EU. Will it every change for us here in the USA?

All the greed has locked up radio very tight. We get air play local radio wise, some here and there but over all, clear channel is a very nasty queen to please.

Here is a link that might be of some use to some here.

be sure to read into the FAQs there, there are some gems to be found.

Although payola is illegal it does appear to be rampant, biz commands invester dollar usage(we see where all this is and goes to),a tangled web.
Many years ago I discovered an interesting trick of book authors 1) write yer own reviews and submit them to newspapaers ettc. using a critic name(they are public figures so no crime) 2)ask for airplay 3)spend some money on phone services and make requests, you can hire phone calling services for polls etc have them make requests they get a better call rate than individuals on their watts services. 3)send DJ's your CD on a personal level( they may like it 4) you can try licensing your work to be played in nonsecular school halls etc.

The disclaimer in the FAQ
"Do you promote music to radio?
No. We are a third-party information provider and do not attempt to influence playlists in any way. We do provide contact information for our college and non-commercial panels (Contact Us for details) but we do not speak to the station personnel about any specific songs or albums. "

maybe you missed that?

Anyway, it's a thin line. Indies need a service for this. Oasys CD Manfact. has this if you have 2k+ made, Disk Makers and so on. Many services out there but if you track that is say, hip hop, arrives at a classical station, waste of CD and everyones time. There needs to be a service that knows the stations and just not some blind mass mail spam which more than not, make it to the circular bin in short haste.
