If I'm in an angry mood I'll usually throw in some Refused or Thought Riot.
If I need cheering up I look to The Beatles.
If I feel like staying upset about something for some reason, then I go with Alkaline Trio or some slow sad love song.

Well, Reconsiderate we have Bill Frissell in common. Ghost Town is in my permanent library and has been for better than a year now. I'm also into Bela Fleck & the Flectones.

The stuff that chills me right down any time though is music by Andreas Vollenweider. New age jazz at its very best. But then there's Bob James, Shadowfax, Boney James, Richard Elliot, Chris Botti and innumerable other great jazz musicians that also work to chill me out.

Then there's my favorite, Ry Cooder. You should check out his double soundtrack CD. Kind of pricey, but I can plug that in the player and run it through my 100 watt outdoor speakers and chill with a beer in about a minute!

Can't say I've ever heard of Steven Mark, but Martouk really hit it on the head with a lot of the New Age jazz artists! I enjoy a ton of music on the Windam Hill label- lots of incredible stuff! Actually at present I am back pedalling a bit to older recordings (well- 70's and 80's) I must have listened to "Friday Night In San Francisco" (Al Dimeola, John Mclaughlin and Paco De Lucia) about 100 times over the past week alone.

I almost always feel weirded out, or less than centered...whatever that is,...guess I`m a moody biotch. For some reason when I`m depressed, I like to amplify the depression, it seems to be when I`m in my most artistic state. "The Same Deep Water As You" by The Cure, off the Desentigration c.d. does it every time. When I`m amped or in a party mood, AC-DC, "Back In Black" usually sets me off. When I`m in one of those somber, or relaxed moods, I usually listen to Portishead, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Kitaro, old Tangerine Dream...that kind`of stuff. Last few days I`ve been searching bands on MySpace, and listening to basically anything "folk", or "bluegrass"...must be my mid-life crisis mood or somthing...lol

By the way....sorry I mentioned that "other" web-site in here...lol

Song that does it for me: "Pirates" from Works, Vol. I by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. "And any other laden fancy, we will take her by surprise!" -Greg Lake/Peter Sinfield. I love that whole album. I'm a lead singer/bass guitarist/orchestra director (original, huh?!). I can perform "Pirates" almost perfectly.

Firstly I must say that I'm the mellow music child, [when I need to "center"] the songs don't have to be SUPER "Let's think deeply now", but just songs that wrap you in amazingness! Secondly, I must say that all of songs here are much newer than some of the ones that have been discussed on this board, I have covers of old songs listed but no truly older songs, however I do recommend The Monkees. There is no KISS, no Zepplin, no Beatles but a cover of Hendrix. I'm younger and so is my music. ;]

I'm not really into the Smashing Pumpkins or anything, and I don't want to come off as a SP super fan or anything, I actually only know a couple of songs and only because I have a tribute CD that came with a SPIN mag. But I find that the Ben Kweller cover of "Today" is great...even if today wasn't the greatest day ever, I feel like it. I also love Young Love's cover of "1979", it makes me feel amazing.

My musical IDOL, is hands down, John Mayer...every song that this man has written or covered has been amazing.
My favorites, "Clarity" just the name gives me peace, the music and words are a masterpiece, "New Deep" this is a slightly deep song...it's soo true on so many different levels, "Home Life" the beat gives me this feeling, I can't decscribe, the tone of his voice is TRULY relaxing. I LOVE his cover of "Bold As Love" which is a Jimi Hendrix song, his cover is almost completely different from Jimi's. A lot of people like John's more than the original. I also love "Vultures", it seems like it would be kinda unrelaxing but it's great. The crystal clear guitar and the smooth voice proove to be wonderful.

My favorite band is Circa Survive, they are truly amazing and weird.
Anthony Green sounds kinda like a woman, but he's not. He is a man, with a truly deep voice. All of their songs are true to heart, they use real words, bigger words and their melodies are to die for.
Some people find Anthony annoying, but I don't, It's amazing. The best song that they have, by far is "Juturna" from the album of the same name, not only is the melody peaceful and wonderful, but Anthony's voice is as well...the words are amazing. Another that I truly love, "Kicking Your Crosses Down" from their most recent album, I love this song's smooth beat and odd drums, though they're not heavy, the words are great and calming, this one you have to think about, just like most of their song, or you can take it like it is, you get something new almost everytime you listen.

Then, the Strokes...anything of theirs will make you soo CHILL.
Anything from Coldplay, anything from KT Tunstall.
Anything This Providence, Anything Jack's Mannequin and Youth Group, Bedouin Soundclash and A couple of White Stripes tracks, Franz Ferdinand and Flyleaf. Band Of Horses, Spoon, Lights, some stuff from Say Antyhing, some Academy Is... and OKGO has some super chill tracks.

Avenged Sevenfold is not EXACTLY calming, but sometimes is just right.
John Legend is also great for relaxing.

So, that was much more than one track, I think you'll have quite a time listening to these and seeing what works for you.

The Soundtrack to Maurice Sendak's Really Rosie by Carole King is one of the greatest childrens' recordings of all time. Its super cheery and upbeat, and fun and dramatic too.

Harry Nilsson is super cheery, check out Harry Nilsson- Me and My Arrow from his soundtrack for the animated film The Point. he wrote the theme to The Courtship of Eddie's Father.

The Monkeys are cheery, and the Partridge Family.

SUPERDRAG is wickedly inspirationally cheery and positively driven.

Michael Penn is decently cheery (most of the time) Paul McCartney and Wings, and Klaatu is pretty upbeat and so is Blur.

The Housemartins are sarcastiucally cheery
