Hi Susan,

I don't know if you are already registered or not, but you can find other members in Los Angeles using the Browse link at http://www.musicforte.com/search_user.php

Just put Los Angeles in the City field. If you are registered at Music Forte (it's free), you can then add the musicians to your friend list so that you can build your contact list in the Los Angeles area.

Since you are looking for musicians, you'll have a chance to hear their music and decide if they are a good match for hooking up with.

Best of luck!

This is a good thread here to revive.

I started out, and always will be, a singer. But I had a lot of difficulty finding people wanting to create original music. So I had to learn how to play.

I play guitar, bass, keyboards, and lots of virtual instruments. I am fluent in MIDI, understand many software applications, and have been computer literate since the early 70's.

What about YOU?

Here is a pic of my current studio. what does yours look like?

DON'T KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD IMAGES ON A FORUM? IT'S EASY. YOU NEED A SPACE ON THE NET TO HOLD YOUR PICS. USUALLY YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER OFFERS A SMALL BIT OF WEB SPACE. LOAD THE PICS IN THAT. THERE ARE OTHER SPACES AVAILABLE, BUT MANY FREEBIES ARE AGAINST HOLDING JUST IMAGES. THEN, USE THE "QUICK" TAGS ABOVE. THE ONE THAT SAYS "Img" IS IMAGE. YOUR TAG WILL GIVE YOU THE FIRST CODE THAT YOU NEED. INSERT THE HTTP:// FOLLOWED BY THE EXACT LOCATION OF YOUR PICS. EXAMPLE: http://members.cox.net/joemichals/studio.gif THE [Img] in front. and must be closed with the image tag at the end. It is the same tag but has a forward slash in front of the word "[/Img]" like so, EASY!

right now i am playing some guitar. I also have a keyboard that is not really a big dollar one. So I am learning that and acid software. I have acid 3 from my brother who gave me this computer i have now. it is pretty cool, but i am still learning how to make it all fit so it sounds good.

Music has always been a common thread in my life. I have been a practicing musician (drummer) for more than 20 years. Being a musician, and gaining initial exposure to the industry through the eyes of an artist, provides invaluable insight into the intricacies of the business.

I love upright bass. They are fun to play, I would imagine hard to get to know. I had a fretless Jazz Bass one time, but it had fret lines on it. I liked the feel of the fretless, though it wasn't quite as perky, had a mellow sound. I also had a T-40 Peavey one time. I loved that log! Great instrument for a 7 ft person! Thing weighed big time. I have an Ibanez now. Light as a feather and slimmer scale on the board. (I have small fat hands)

I have two keyboards and tons of VSTi instrumentation. I want to explore more of that this year. I have just experimented with them really, nothing recorded. No, that's not true. I have one song recorded. Cry in My Own Way (The Peyote Song) is about proud Native People and how they show little emotion except to the Spirit. I need to finish that one.

I played violin before I played the upright bass and I found the bass a lot easier. Probably because of the size of my hands. When I started to play the bass guitar in metal band I found that the guitar was rediculously easy in comparison. At the moment I am not playing much bass guitar and the upright gets most of my attention.
jazzmatazzes

As far as VST instruments I have a few but when it comes down to is I only regularly use 2 the ES1 for logic Audio and Crystal which came free from computer music magazine. I do occationally use others but I get the sounds that I want without much fuss from these.

I do electronic music.
THere are a few other guys on my friends list. Also do a music search under electronic artists and industrial artist. You may be amazed at some of the things you find here.

My first love is the bass guitar and when I was about 14 I went to see Rush in concert. I was so blown away by Geddy Lee that I decided I wanted to learn how to play bass..and hopefully someday own one of those rickenbackers... That was way back in 1979.. Around 1988, I picked up the guitar while in the Air Force cuz I couldnt find anyone to jam. That turned into me buying a 4-track. Since then I have picked up the keyboards although I stumble all over the place with that instrument. Typically I will sequence my keyboard tracks in software. I have very limited ability to play "real" chords on keyboards. Somewhere along that timeframe I started to "collect" gear and presently I am using a fostex vf16 synced to adobe audition & reason propellorhead. I also dabble a little with fruity loops although I mostly use it to develop my drum loops...

Thanks Krusty! I live and breath in that studio! Unfortunately, I haven't written as much as I could. I also record the radio show the "Review Crew" from the same place. So it does get some use. I do plan on taking some more time this year and finishing some things. Also, writing some new material.

I just do it for grins though. I leave the REAL music production to my Pro's at Music Forte!

my wife refers to it as the "cave"

"You going into the cave?".. Yes I am dear...cya when the snow thaws out

p.s... you cant see it in this pic.. but there is a couch that pulls out into a bed.. Good for those 3am late night sessions when I wake up with some riff swirling around in my head... mracoustic

I'm first and foremost a guitarist. Been playing guitar since I was oh I dunno..before I was 10, mostly bashing out Kinks or Who tunes I could figure out back then. I've dabbled with keyboards, but never was very good at it. I've always been writing my own songs- and when I had my first band in my teens I played shows with other bands and actually saw a situation where there was the opening cover band- then my 95% originals band- followed by the headlining cover band who played 8 songs that the opening act played! THAT did it for me- I've been going original ever since. Right now I'm doing all the guitar, bass, drum programming, keyboards vocals- everything. I'm trying to figure out my Boss BR1600CD and record 2 cds simultaneously- one instrumental and the other more mainstream Rock with vocals (which are good- but I've never really been comfortable singing even when I was the lead vocalist and guitarist for my band,) and yes- I will get the pics and tunes uploaded shortly so you can all enjoy.
