It depends on your flow, Sugar. Whatever words you have in your rhyme, if it flows right it can sound good. Eminem, for instance. A lot of his words don't even rhyme at all, but the way it plays out is smooth on the backside, so it sounds like it was supposed to go together. Does that make sense?
My thought is the best thing to do for you, is to take your idea, and your recorder (computer, whatever) and adlib (improvise) it and let it come out natural. See, you have some ideas now, and you can get more, but incorporate that into a natural freestyle and see where it goes. It will come together by itself, and the Spirit will move you in the right direction. Plus, you got it down on tape, or whatever you are using. Then you can go back and see what sounded right, what felt wrong. Then write it up and go to it! |

| The playback will reveal elements of the song that fit nicely, and other ideas that may require more polishing or reworking. Go through the record/playback process several times or until the song plays in finished form. |

| I really enjoy the originality in "How to Exist." The lyrics are well written, and the vocal delivery is excellent. |

Why thank you, signhereonline! I actually may be taking How to Exist off my site relatively soon, since it isn't a part of the new compilation I'm loading. So grab it quick if you want to claim it as your own!

Hello,
I am an Indi Artist/Songwriter on this site as well. Usually, what you do if you have someone write you a song, is sign a contract that if you record their song, that you agree to give them a "royalty" for their song per CD/# of amounts of their song gets sold (in a download situation). On a CD, it's 9.5 cents per song (if co-authors, you split that amount between them). I found this out through my attorney on the amount (as an FYI). What I'd also suggest, is to get two seperate permission sheets from the song writer (or include it on the same piece of paper), that the songwriter gives you permission to sing their song for public performance and that they also give you permission to record their song for sale (of course, with the inclusion that you agree to give them the required royalty). I've not dealt with a "publishing company" as of yet. So, I don't have any information to give you about that. If it's a co-writing situation, you would divide up the amount of contribution that the other author contributed to the song (50/50 or etc...). I wouldn't get anal with it though like if the other author gave you one lyric. In my opinion, he/she wouldn't be entitled to 50%. It gets more complicated the more authors you get involved. So, if possible, stick to one other person & yourself or write the song on your own. Also, on the co-writing have the other person agree to split the registration fee with you to the US Copyright Office. If you're writing more than one (& there's only one other author)-same applies with the acception of sending in several songs as a compilation. It'll save you money if you do it that way ($30.00 for several songs or $30 for 1 song, the compilation is the cheaper route). On anything in music if you have doubt (in relation to legal stuff), contact an entertainment attorney. He/she can tell you more than you ever want to know about copyrights & etc...
I hope I've been some help!
Blessings--

Hello,
You're welcome! If you're not sure about something in relation to music/songwriting, always ask a trusted source. There are a lot of people who may try to take advantage of artists/bands/songwriters simply for the fact that they're new to the industry & don't know a lot of things. Since you're a "Christian Artist" (I am too by the way), pray for the Lord to give you wisdom & direction on whom to work with & where to get trusted information.
Blessings--"Tawana" |

Although musicians are skilled and experienced in their craft; too many of them are novices as it pertains to industry standards and practices. Therefore, I agree that it is in the best interest of the artist to seek professional council whenever uncertainty rears its head. |
