What 5 things did you do to promote your act today?

Postby rodfatha » Sun Mar 04, 2007 1:16 pm

I thought this might make an interesting daily thread that would help our members encourage each other while also collaborating on each others ideas. You know the old saying 40,000 heads are better than one! So starting today I was thinking we could all keep sort of an online diary on what exactly were doing to get to the next level. Just think next week this time you may have done 35 things already. Some acts go their whole career without ever doing that many things to promote, which is why their career resulted in no career"in the industry" It could be anything inviting friends to hanging flyers, making a contact, whatever. I shot an early morning video "Let it Burn",invited 3 friends here at mf ,Started this thread, made phone calls to 3 area clubs for booking info and will probably spend the rest of the afternoon editing the video. who's next see ya later.

rosemarie I didn't think this was going any where but hopefully you ressurected it. It has been about a week and this is the first reply. I have continued this experiment and I'm proud to say I have done 30 things as of today. Mostly to do with new video and promotion of the upcoming Darkk Warrior c.d. If we get this back on track I'll resume daily postings, but really it's the only way I see making a dent in what is a sea of great music on the Internet! And yes I have been unfaithful to Music forte a few times to join other music sites however just like a cheating husband It's all been very dissappointing in the end. Music Forte is the place to be for the serious career minded artist!

5 Things?

Postby mobilehomeboy » Sat Mar 10, 2007 9:05 am

Let's see here:

I farted, hocked-up a big loogie, spit it for what HAD to be 10 yards out the back door, I've picked my butt AND my nose (not simultaneously, that requires more concentration than I'm willing to allow), and that makes 5.

But, I posted about it here, so there's promo where you find it!

It's not what you do, but what you do WITH it.

I hope I made my point in some insignifigant, roundabout way......

mhb now my day can begin I have heard from the chosen one! Yeah you made a point you always do! But in any event I have a blast reading your post. Good luck with the radio thing sunday I'll be listening try not to use the"f" word if you get an interview. If they read your post they'll probably consider the whole 5 second delay thing! By the way those 5 things you did this morning probably still outweigh what most artist do. Good luck Sunday,I hope it kicks A!* and may it be the beggining of your journey to the hollywood hills with "heather locklear" types! Rosemarie thanks very much I'll let you know how it goes!

It's not THAT big a deal....

Postby mobilehomeboy » Sat Mar 10, 2007 6:32 pm

It's not that big a deal, just figured that it'd be good to show that you can get airplay when you want, at some pretty large stations. I usually air 1st or second in the second hour. Anyway, the Nashville area is familiar with me, and they're good people out there.

I was 9th place in "Mixer of the Year" there in 2004 or 2005, I forget.

Tune in if ya get the chance. Soon as I get the time, I'm gonna be doing some station IDs for them. You know, like "WRVUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuu, Nashville....." stuff like that.

Hey it's a big enough deal because it shows some of the new/younger artist that it can be done. I've had both airplay and airplay with regular rotation on some stations here in upstate NY and theres a little bit of a difference mainly when I put out I'll make it rain it got pretty good rotation back in 1990 and with that I was constantly contacted by the same 5 club owners for a period of about 4 months to come and perform that song usually to the tune of about $350.00 a show just for doing that 1 song. Hasn't happened since but that was sweet for a snot-nosed 22 year old. That was probably why I couldn't make it work any better I thought I knew it all then and looking back I didn't know s*!* So you live &learn. Hope you enjoyed the coverage at www.rodfatha.com and by the way I played "pain remix" for a couple of my self defense students 2 of who are on the local wresteling team here at the high school and they wanted me to ask you if they could use it as their "warm up " song! I think that's a pretty big deal seeing they could choose anyone elses in the world. So Maybe it's not a huge deal to you but myself and I'm sure I can speak for our friends here are still pretty excited for you!-rlb-

this has the potential to become a pretty good, long-standing thread.
8)

i usually focus on making the music and don't get around to promotion. for instance, i've been editing and re-editing my forthcoming CD over the past couple of months. when i'm finally done with it, i plan to hold some kind of promotional give away. i'll put up some posts online with offer, and i'll hand them out to local alternative record shops.

usually try pretty hard to make contacts. i never play live, so this is the best alternative method to introduce my hard work to others. it's a very slow process when you do it one at a time.

today, i'm getting some business cards printed up. i can hand them out to people when we get into the old "i'm a recording artist" conversation. or use them like fliers.

I put a link on my forte page for a free digital download of my latest cd, Seasons Of Life. Im hoping that if I give it away, folks will support some of my other work. I also made all 7 of my cd's available as digital downloads for $5 each.

Hmmm, what did I do today? I answered 2 emails from prospective filmmakers, one for a corporate project, one who is not currently in project but who will add my name to his composer list. I will be emailing him again after this post to send him my MF link so he can preview my work.

I also have three comments to place here and elsewhere for comments on my pages and I have to thank a new friend on my list. After that I will be checking the sites that I frequent for more work possibilities in film.

Plus, I am posting this response and inviting everyone and anyone to my page to hear my music.

This is about the daily routine for me. My music is now a second fulltime job.
