What band do you really dig right now?

Postby step8 » Wed Jun 15, 2005 12:52 am

I know a lot of us will listen to the same things all our lives, but I think there are phases too, when we really take in something.

What band is kickin [bleep] for you right now?

Don't shoot me, but Carrie Underwood, and I haven't even heard any original music out of her yet.

who rules?

Mae. I don't own any of his LPs (apparently, he's got 2 out), but I have heard this song of his... called "this time is the last time" i think... and it is just awesome. May have heard another one the other day... didn't catch the artist info, but it sounded like him.

This guy (Mae) rocks. Very tight. In fact, "tight" is a much better description than "rocks".

My girlfriend recently introduced me to Type O Negative. I feel they're rather mind-blowing.

Blind Melon/Unified Theory are way better than I ever would have suspected. Underrated.

Mindless Self Indulgence (holy baloney... these guys are like: "hello, there goes your @$$, I have just kicked it).

In my car, I've also got a Faith No More tape, an REM tape, one of mine (well, of course  ), and the soundtrack to Amelie (very much worth a listen if melodies, as opposed to rhythms or lyrics, float your boat).

Other than this, I'm more or less flipping stations while I drive. Also, since I typically spend a good couple hours on the internet at a time, I'll check out my fellow un-signed artists while I chat with them in forums.

Deep Purple

I'm totally looking forward to Rapture of the Deep. Just starting to get into Banannas. Purpendicular totally blew me away. I think they tried to hard on Abandon but perhpas that one will grow on me like House of Blue Light did.

Deep Purple is the only band where I own the hole catalog except for band like Shadow King or the Firm that only have one or two recordings.

I also find myself being drawn to "You Are Here" by UFO. It is now up to 9th place in my top 10 list of UFO recordings. Had High Stakes and Dangerous men in the number 9 slot. You Are Here bumped it out. Decided it was a mistake having High Stakes and Dangerous Men above Flying.

I have been really big into Radiohead this past week. I am listening to some cds I have not heard from them. I am really digging 'The Bends' at this time.

Do solo electronic artists count?
I can't get enough of Excile's album "Pro Agonist" at the moment.

I've been listening to a live Zeppelin bootleg CD entitled "requiem." This was a show recorded at Madison Square Garden on September 19, 1970.

It's priceless!

Sparta

Postby Reconsiderate » Thu Jan 19, 2006 1:37 pm

A couple years ago, I picked up a CD by this group called Sparta. It was called "Wiretap Scars". I definitely dug it, and still can get down with it when it finds its way into my CD player. Then, one night while I was at some local radio station promotional event, one of the DJs was giving away another one of Sparta's CDs: Porcelain. He gave it to me. Can get down with this CD too. It's in my CD player at the time of this writing.

Right now, Complex by Gigi D'agostino, and some of his other works. Just got off a 30 seconds to mars addiction.

My Music for the Jilted Generation (Prodigy) CD is in my CD player right now. This is one of those CDs that I hardly ever listen to, but when I do, I'm like: "Damn. This actually is a pretty good CD."

Also got this CD recently called Personal Journals from Sage Francis. It's rap, but definitely not the kind of rap you're probably thinking of if all you know is 50 cent. This guy raps about some pretty interesting stuff, and his flow is quite free. (kind of like Aesop Rock) Live instruments, like a stand up bass on some tracks. He's white, I do believe.

You know who else is a great rap group? Blackalicious. I got their NIA CD. I should go listen to it, now that I think of it.

I'm loving The Flaming Lips more and more every day. Their new album "At War with the Mystics" is definitely different, but it's awesome.

Also, I started liking Radiohead in December... I got all of their albums within a month! :P
