Some guy just emailed me out of the blue, offering some time in a local show. Figure I may as well take him up on his offer...

His company has some pretty neat promo ideas. May be worth checking out:

Hello,
5 techniques that can help you promote

1. Flyers: Pass them out EVERYWHERE
2. Door Hangers: Hang them a week before a gig in the surrounding neighborhood of the venue
3. Build an informative website.
4. Get your music on itunes, napster or other mp3 stores and place links on your site
5. Place online ads with google adwords and direct traffic to your site. Through my experience, 1 in 10 clicks buy.

We're currently promoting artists in Japan, and helping independent artists get their tracks promoted on a leading online radio station amongst many other projects.

Also we run ad campaigns on genre specific blogs through our ad partners, its much more cost effective than blasting to the masses as it's laser targeted to your fan audience.

Check out our blog for free tips and advice at http://mymusicsuccess.blogspot.com

Also we have a competition at our hompepage running until 31st september to win a Gibson Guitar, if you haven't entered now is the time!!!

If you'd like some help promoting your music, drop by and have a chat with us and we'll see how we can help!

We try to treat Class 6 as much like a business as we do a musical group. We're all independant artists here, so none of us have a foolproof blueprint of how to get your music out there, but we are gaining a lot of knowledge just from trial and error. In the beginning, we weren't very selective with our target audience; we would pass out flyers at random places in random towns and really see no results. Online marketing and networking with other artists has really seemed to help us out the most. We belong to a number of different websites and online distributers (cdbaby, itunes, reverbnation, myspace, twitter, facebook, purevolume, youtube etc.), and try to direct each one to the other as much as possible. The more traffic you can generate, the better. Another thing that has helped to generate a good amount of buzz for our band has been competing in BOTBs. We came in first place at the 'Next Big Thing' competition at the Trocadero last year, and because of it we are now noticed by a lot more bands and promoters and have been playing steady shows ever since.
What do you guys do to get all of your online profiles and music out there and reach new listeners?

I'm not in a band, but I have been learning a lot about music promotion recently. If you all are looking for more ideas on how to spread your music, read some of Ariel Hyatt's free ezine Sound Advice (http://soundadviceezine.com/). It covers an extensive amount of topics, but its main focus is promoting yourself online. It also comes with a free ebook "Musician's Guide to Social Media Success" that has lots of great tips. It's definitely worth reading.
