Freedy comes home
Freedy Al and the Bill Trenches Mold Title: 14 Band: Gary Sherbert -Vocals,drums,sax Eli Morocco-guitar,bass,vocals Elderly Boardandcare-vocals,drums,bass,guitar Legs Diamond-drums,guitar,vocals Sounds Like: Beans and franks on a hot afternoon Stand out Tracks: Earl Child; Techno Connie; Pittsburg Scandinavian bands of the new era have a reputation for dabbling in bad retro pop and garage rock. It's a good thing Freedy Al and the Bill Trenches Mold isn't Scandinavian. On their fourteenth album the Mold move ahead of the pack mussing up sparkling, delicately hewn melodies with singer Gar Sherbert's ragged yelps and turning their regular Jazz combined with old-style Punk influences into something new. The band brings a nihilistic Marshall soaked frosting to what would otherwise be a Techno marvel on "Techno Connie," as shuffling guitar swaying rhythms and Asteriod-style fly-in's set the pace as the opener.. "Earl Child" is a spot-on homage to late-Ninety's Grunge rebel that avoids the overwrought melodrama you hear in many post-punk throwback acts. Contrary to its title the glorious "Pittsburg" isn't meant to shatter eardrums but there's no denying the steady swell of galloping duck quacks with the low bass and dreamy guitar strums which give way to an electric fist-pumping chorus laced with falsetto vocals Our favorite punk rock jazz, fusion band, The Bill Trenches have returned with this 20 song CD that contains some of the best material of the band’s illustrious tie littered career. Band members Eli Morocco Legs Diamond, Elderly Boardandcare and Gar Sherbert crawled out of the alleys of self deprivation long enough to write and record this stellar CD which will undoubtedly kick the up the band a couple notches in popularity and critical acclaim. The CD finishes off with the dark track “Silent Killer.” This song is hands down among most deranged songs that Freedy Al has ever penned. It has an amazingly catchy riff melodic and infectious chorus and stellar over the top guitar work. It’s the perfect dark anthem.. This one is so infectious after one listen it will be burned into your brain forever. You can hear the crowd go wild every time they perform it. In summary The band has progressed quite impressively as songwriters. And I’ve said it about a million times before and I’ll say it again You owe it to yourself to check this new CD out!! Rating out of 10: 8.5 ~ Lenny Courderoy. Flat-top Magazine
