Drawing influence from an eclectic base of artists, Ricci evokes the likes of Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Glen Phillips, & Martin Sexton as his main inspirations, touting their wide range of sounds and abilities as an anthology of mentorship-through-music. While each of these artists span different genres and generations, it is clear that Jon has drawn upon their shared passion for authenticity and the common goal of moving their listeners through the sounds and words of classic songs.

The arrival of Jon Ricci and his debut EP Soliloquy, have given acoustic rock something new to look forward to. Declaring to the music world that things are changing and Ricci’s doing the changing. Undoubtedly music’s newest and quite possibly only Renaissance man Ricci has spent his college years not only honing his love for music but in making an undeniable difference in the world.
As the founder and president of the Babson College chapter of Amnesty International a world-renowned organization dedicated to taking action against human rights violations the president of the college’s anti-sexual assault advocacy and support team and the founder and president of Babson’s wrestling team Jon Ricci’s abilities have spawned a one-man revolution to make a difference in the arts athletics, and in social awareness. In fact Jon made the decision to donate a portion of every sale of his debut record Soliloquy, to the Nation Coalition Against Domestic Violence. When asked why Ricci replies; “You’re better than being abused and need to let yourself have a voice and cry out against it. It’s a human rights issue and it is necessary to fight back.”
The 22-year-old Boston-based singer/songwriter armed with a talented band and an All-American look has burst onto the music scene as a college senior with a sound and story that tells of a dramatic past a relentlessly energetic present and a boundless future.
“People used to look at me like I was crazy when I said I don’t play anything; that my songs came from literally nothing and all of a sudden they were just… there. “I’ll be walking through downtown Boston and all of a sudden I’ve got a tune going and I’ve got to get to the nearest phone so I can record it on my answering machine.”
“All I know is what feels right and that’s what I write down. I’ve never forced anything never sat down to write a song you just got to let it happen on its own… you’ve got to trust yourself to provide the story when the story’s ready to be written.”
His following grows with every show solidifying him as a presence in the Northeast and whether it’s Boston New York, or elsewhere, with every lyric spun and every melody sung. Songs filled with passionate declarations of lovelorn longing and heart-felt self-reflection compound upon stories of triumph curiosity, and the ever-present struggle with belonging to something bigger than one’s self.
“The songs in this collection are reflective of the life I’ve lived so far. I think most people my age have lived loved, and lost enough by this point to really have some strong feelings and opinions on what they’ve been through and what’s going on around them. Leaving Boston and Amidst the Gray are clear examples of how I’ve struggled with where I’ve been who I am, and who I’m becoming. But at the same time they’re hopeful driven pieces about what lies ahead and in taking that attitude I feel like my music has a much more significant positive role to be played in the lives of those who have felt the same way. While I love when someone else can connect with me through my music writing has been really self-reflective and often times without any particular audience in mind beyond my own eyes and ears. In the end this is my heart and soul on top of a melody. When it’s all said and done this is my soliloquy.”
