Willena “Mz. N.V.” Vaughn
Recently from the stages of The Black Repertory
Theater (ST. Louis MO) and the Black Theatre Troupe (Phoenix,
Arizona) tackling the lead role as Effie White in the nationally known
Production “Dreamgirls” and recently crowned Best Performance in a
Lead Role Musical by way of The Woodie King Jr. Award this 28
Year old Saint Louis native is definitely pressing towards the mark…
Willena has the style and delivery of a seasoned veteran that captures and
engages the audience. One would compare her sound to the likes of great
Jazz Gospel, and R&B legends. But as you listen closely you’ll hear that there is
something impressive and unique about Willena’s abilities. It is this
combination sprinkled with “Anointing” that has won over her local critics and fellow artists. Her talent speaks for itself and she definitely has a head for the game.
Though her roots are firmly planted in gospel she was exposed to and enjoys all forms of music. Willena joined forces with National recording artist Kheshia Becton and New day in 1999 recording a CD entitled “Beginnings”. Since this time she has worked on successfully mastering her project. Her resume includes writing; (Ghetto Dreams) “Pieces of a Dream” Soundtrack. Acting; A House Divided Meeting at the Elders Circle Dreamgirls, Crossin’Over & Cotton Club and Performing on numerous stages around the world. Willena feels this is only the beginning. In addition to Theatre and her upcoming CD she has also set her scope on feature films & clothing designing in the near future.
Willena has worked with the likes of national recording artists: Vanessa Bell-Armstrong Ali Woodson, Sean Levert, Denise Thimes, Delirious, Bishop Paul S. Morton and Jon B. Under renowned direction of Ron Himes Ralph Greene, David Hemphill and Joel P.E. King. Musical direction of Ron Grant Charles Creth, Kevin Kelly, and David Foote. Though recent charts have proven that this industry still has a very eclectic appetite this doesn’t scare Mz. N.V. one bit. “I welcome the challenge. If it were easy it wouldn’t be worth having. At the end of each day it is still about my love for God and the Arts.” When asked what inspires her to succeed she replied, “I allow my gifts to make room for me and remain humble as I remember that all things are possible to them that believe…”
