Born in August of 1984 Nathan Buckley began his music endeavors in 4th grade with the clarinet. He studied music on the clarinet with private teachers and through participation in the school band. However the clarinet was not enough for this young lad. As he entered high school he found himself drawn to rhythm. He immediately picked up the bass. In the high school marching band he moved from clarinet to the drum line. Nate began studying bass under Brian Battles at Middle Street School of Music in his hometown of Plymouth and continued throughout high school. There Brian taught Buckley the foundations of music theory and some complex music theory. Nate put heavy emphasis on studying jazz bass lines progressions, improvisation, and classical. By the time Buckley graduated high school he had been in the high school jazz band Sang baritone in the men's choir participated for four years in the marching and concert bands and jammed with two cover bands Void if Removed, The Usual Suspects. Both bands included Miller Drive drummer Nathan Cristofori. Nate went on to Umass Lowell where he studied the bass with accomplished bassist Mark Henry. Buckley majored in sound recording technology and is current taking a year off from college. Due to Nate’s personal studies private teaching and love of music he has a wide range of musical influences. Including Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Mike Gordon, Steve Bailey, Victor Wooten, Flea, Stefan Lessard and Tad Kinchla of Blues Traveler. Nate joined Miller Drive in the summer of 2003 and has been a perfect fit in terms of style. Combined with the Cristofori’s funky drum beats Downey’s guitar and lyrical magic Jayko’s incredible musical abilities and creativity.
