Influences
|
As a young teen, I was mainly influenced by artists like Neil Young. James Taylor, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and after I accepted Christ and started listening to Christian music, artists like Barry McGuire, Larry Norman, Andre Crouch to name a few, played a part in my music., |

I don't think I sound like anyone, but recently I have been compared to James Taylor (only more user friendly, what ever that means! LOL) and John Denver., |

People all across America have enjoyed the music ministry of Mark Steven Smith. He will make you laugh one minute and cry the next as he sings and tells stories about the amazing grace of our Heavenly Father. You will leave his concerts encouraged in your faith and ready to take the world for Jesus Christ!
Audiences of all ages in all venues will enjoy Mark's witty sometimes comical, and always serious songs about the saving power of Jesus Christ and the joy found only in living for Him!
Available for retreats church services, men’s breakfasts, revivals, camp meetings, and more, Mark will bring fun and excitement to your Christian event.
Leaving Nashville
Mark started singing for the Lord shortly after he accepted Christ as his personal savior. Almost immediately he found himself sharing the stage with artists like Barry McGuire The Speer Family, Johnny Cash, Keith Green, and speakers Nicky Cruz Chuck Colson, R.W. Shambach and many others.
After a visit to Nashville to work on his first record he became disillusioned with an atmosphere that seemed more interested in profits than in winning souls to Christ. He left the glitter of Music City behind and has been singing and recording independently ever since.
Mark is often asked to describe his music ministry. All he will tell you at first is that he is a simple man and simple singer of simple songs for Jesus. "I try to write my songs about life experiences and about my love for the Lord and about all the things he has done for me."
You will often find him wearing a T-shirt and Jeans. He tells people that his favorite T-shirt is one that says: "I am the Wretch the Song Refers to."
Mark knows and understands the grace and mercy of God more than most perhaps. "God took a broken messed up man and saved him by His blood and continues to mold and break me into who He wants me to be." Mark says.
"I try to sing about these things and about the wonderful place where we will be going one day soon!" He continues. "I also try to have fun! Being a Christian has its ups and downs but it sure is an adventure! There are times when we experience broken hearts and walk through some deep valleys - life is like that for everyone - but there are wonderful times when being a Christian is a blast too! What an amazing adventure!"
Winning Souls
“Evangelism winning souls for the Kingdom of God is the main reason I sing and write songs,” says Mark. “That and encouraging broken hearted battle worn Christians."
Perfectly at home in front of a large audience Mark is just as comfortable in a small house concert or little country church service. “We go where God opens the doors.” He continues.
He has ministered in churches of almost every denomination from Catholic to Southern Baptist and most in-between.
“Time is short.” he continues. “We’ve got to set our differences aside and concentrate on the common thread that binds us together - The blood of Christ and the fact that He died for our sins rose physically from the grave to conquer sin and death and is coming back to take us home! The harvest is ready and there are many souls to win!” |
