Bagpiper and Guitarist Michael Lancaster is a very versatile and highly sought after musician. Michael has been a professional musician and instructor since 1992. He has been playing guitar for 30 years and the bagpipes since 1987. He has a B.S. in Music from the University of Colorado at Denver where he is currently an instructor of music. Michael is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians Denver Musicians Association and the Denver Wedding Professionals the Association of Bridal Consultants Funeral and Memorial Vendors Association of Colorado and a founding member of the Centennial State Pipe Band.
As a guitarist Michael performs and teaches most all styles including pop, jazz, rock, blues, classical, celtic, and new age. He specializes in finger-style classical and contemporary guitar. He also sings a variety of songs. Michael possesses an impressive set list and knows enough material to play for hours.
As a bagpiper Michael has been the representative bagpiper for John Dewar’s Scotch Whisky White Label promotions for seven years. He has also been the representative piper for Johnny Walker Scotch Whisky Murphy’s Stout, Newcastle Ale as well as numerous “Single Malt” labels. Michael has performed at some very prestigious functions: the Columbine Memorial at the Colorado State Capitol United States Marine Corp. 230th Annual Ball Sun Microsystems John Elway Golf Classic Grand openings for James Avery Jewelers JW Marriott and Bel Mar Center graduations for the University of Colorado Law School Denver University and Johnson and Wales University numerous Colorado Rockies and Colorado Rapids games as well as the Royal Bank of Scotland coming to America celebration and the Easter Sunrise Service at Red Rocks. Michael has performed for such dignitaries as Former Vice President Al Gore British Counsel General John McGuire Colorado Governor Bill Owens and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper as well as high profile clients like John Elway Mike Shanahan and Michael Jordan.
Michael has performed for audiences from the Colleges of California to the Pubs of Ireland and he currently performs at 275+ functions a year including weddings, funerals, military functions, schools, retirement homes, golf tournaments, parties, corporate functions, promotions, conventions, bars, and more. Michael is a very versatile musician and has the experience to custom tailor any performance to suit any type of function.
Outside from his performing Michael teaches music at the University of Colorado at Denver as well as private guitar and pipe lessons to 30+ students a week and also runs his own recording studio where he composes and records music for film video and commercials.
