Jim Hughes fell in love with music when his parents bought him a one octave toy synthesizer for Christmas when he was four years old. He started taking piano lessons at the age of ten and joined the middle school band playing the clarinet. He then switched to the bass clarinet in the eight grade. He was invited to and joined the Southeastern United States Honor Band also in the eight grade on the Bass Clarinet. Once he entered high school he joined the marching band drumline percussion ensemble, jazz band (drumset), symphonic band, and concert band. While in the marching band he played the bass drum snare drum, tenors, and all pit instruments. In 1998 between his junior and senior year he marched on the drumline with the Spirit of Atlanta drum and bugle corps who placed 14th at the DCI World Championships. He played drumset for the jazz band and during his sophomore year attended the Clayton State Jazz Clinic. After high school he moved to Columbus Georgia to attend Columbus State University. He majored in Percussion Performance with a focus on drumset. He performed with the Columbus St. Orchestra and the theatre dept. Though he has no formal training Jim has also played the guitar for twelve years. He now has a home studio where he uses many types of instruments and many different genres to write completely original works. Jim Hughes has done scores for many independent short films. He writes in all genres and is virtually a jack of all trades when it comes to any type if sound project. Jim uses the Korg Triton Studio Korg Legacy Series, KRK Rokit monitors, Fender guitars, Alesis multi-mix II 18 and various other percussion and gadgets.
