About James Beckwith
Ben (Frosty) started the band in early 2004. He is known for the amount of trombones he's gone through - he's now on his 4th! Ben now says that his C.G. Conn 88HT is a keeper! Ben has been influenced by many people but none more than Kai Winding and J.J. Johnson. He is now a regular at NYJO and plays in other various brass and jazz bands. His outside life consists of being an I.C.T. technician and lighting technician but favours music above all these things!

Edd has been playing with his horn for around six years. He goes to the Royal Academy of Music every Saturday. He is also an enthusiastic guitar player and has a rock band called Shaded Parade . He has had many influences on the sax but he says Wayne Shorter has to be he is Jazz hero. He was one of the first members of the band along with Ben Rob and James. Edd has also played with some of the most influencial jazz musicians on the current British jazz scene such as Mark Lockheart Chris Bacheler and Stan Sultzman.

Rob has been playing the tenor sax for 6 years. He started out doing the usual AB grades but then got into jazz and started improvising after being blown away at a David Sanborn gig. He moved from alto to tenor when playing in the jazz band at the national youth music camp at Wavenden the home of jazz legends John Dankworth and Cleo Laine. His grandfather has composed and arranged for NYJO and ran his own jazz band - Quintessence. Rob has been a member of Frosty and the Snowmen since its inception. He says "The great thing about this band is that we have grown up together musically and socially so when we play we're absolutely on the same wavelength."

James has been playing his instrument 9 years. He started out playing classical music and got to grade 4. He simply 'got bored' of this genre of music and was looking for another place to express himself in. His friend Edward John Haine had been playing Jazz for a few years and James thought it sounded good and wanted in. James was invited to join Frosty and the Snowmen when it was first created. He has improved dramatically since he first got into jazz and as such plays at the RAM (Royal Academy of Music) Jazz course every Saturday Morning. James has played with some of the latest cats on the scene including: Nick Smart Mark Lockheart and Phil Robson. His main musical tastes are Jazz Funk, Latin & Blues; and is influenced by Bill Evans Oscar Peterson but most of all: Herbie Hancock. Leo joined the band about 4 months after it was started by Frosty. He plays a Cruiser made by Craft which is a fender jazz bass copy. He enjoys long walks in the country and star light nights. Leo mostly plays walking bass in the band but also does a bit of slap on the side. He has been playing for 2 1/2 years and almost knows all the notes on his bass.

Harry has been playing drums and percussion for three years starting in the move to secondary school. His playing has been influenced by many drumming icons such as the great Buddy Rich the innovative Jimmy Chamberlin and the inspirational Don Famulero. He also is involved in a varied array of musical styles ranging from jazz to rock. He has resently taken in interest in the world of sound engineering and is planning to create a home studio in the near future.
