Jarrod Champion – vocal, piano, guitar, organ
Erik Maluchnik – guitar Bryan Brozowski - bass
Matt Stahl – drums Jeff Moats – organ
The forces of nature in conjunction with your basic "process of elimination" philosophy have brought together five musicians in hopes of accomplishing something timeless; or maybe there's just nowhere left to go but up. In any event while sifting through the ashes of passing projects we find these diamonds in the rough with more than enough sensibility to know what to do with something beautiful when it's handed to them. Jarrod Champion has been recording music on his own for the past seven years and has been writing since he can remember. He began playing out sometime in 1996 and after making many rounds through the local coffee shop scene sitting on a stool just wasn't enough anymore. From 2001 to 2003 Jarrod became a member of four different local bands who all played often in the Detroit area; two of which produced studio recordings. Ultimately all of these projects faded away and Jarrod faced the perfect opportunity to pursue his own music. He took the chemistry acquired with certain former band mates and formed his own self-proclaimed "super-group". Armed with the momentum left behind by his previous bands and an all-star cast of local musicians the melancholy rusty-romantic aura of Jarrod's music began to take shape. His Smokey barstool piano style, stemming from old jazz-blues-rock conglomerates such as Tom Waits Elvis Costello and others is the perfect contradiction to the rest of the band's newer more resonant sound; a divine marriage of past and present.
Jarrod Champion has to date, recorded one seven-song e.p. and two full lengths the most recent being the self-titled debut with his new band “sleeps till dusk”. Since it’s completion this past November the record has sold very well and receives regular airplay on both wdet (npr) Riff 2 (hd satellite radio) and over 30 different internet radio stations and podcasts throughout the world. Jarrod and crew have frequented the local hot-spots participated in many music festivals (including The Hamtramck Labor Day Fest and the Detroit Taste-fest) as well as the annual South by Southwest festival in Austin Texas and have shared the stage with acts such as Mike Watt and the Secondmen Twinemen, Idlewild and others. They have also been featured in the Real Detroit Weekly column entitled "Subbaculcha" the Hamtramck circular "Main Street" and numerous e-zines across the world. They can be found currently playing throughout the midwest.
