Bassist Rick Lazaroff hails from Toronto Canada. His father is Canadian Jazz drummer extrordinaire Alex Lazaroff. Rick started out on drums but switched to bass after hearing Wilson Pickett's "Midnight Hour". Exposed to Jazz Motown and Rock shaped Rick's playing. His early career included stints in Blues Bands Heavy Rock and even Dance and Country and Western.
In the 80's Rick formed "Santers" with Rick and Mark Santers. Within a year the band signed a Canadian deal and started touring extensively throughout Canada the U.S. and the U.K.
Their albums were released in over a dozen countries throughout the world. The future looked bright for the Canadian power trio but sucess can be fleeting. The boys called the whole thing off when Rick Santers decided to join the sinking ship known as "Triumph". With Triumph's carreer on the slippery slope downwards even the addition of talented guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist Rick Santers could not save the band from going under.
Lazaroff then bounced around the Toronto music scene for some time coming to realization that a solo project was long over due.
With that plan in place Laz sketched out a couple of dozen ideas from which to expand expound and extract. And it came to be 11 vehicles for improvisation rather than typical song compositions. The original plan was to compose tunes that nobody would ever want to hear but what transpired was something that was a bit more conventional possibly. Odd time signatures galore whole tone scales, middle eastern scales, some industrial noise thrown in and voila! An album errr CD, ummm project.
With Lazaroff manning the computer mouse bass guitars, guitars, drum programming and synths along with some help from a few comrades the CD was complete. "Groovistico Ballistico" has arrived. |
