The Atlanta-based group entered the music scene in 2004 and quickly made rhythmic waves by creating a unique fusion of ambient bass-driven, & self-empowering music with roots in TripHop & industrial rock. Their self-defined style of "TRIPHYPNOTIC-ROCK" is classic Heart collides with Nine Inch Nails arranged by Portishead.
Most recently MFQ has undergone a lineup change and has entered production of their debut CD with producer/musician Michael Levine (APC Studios Atlanta), who has frequently plays bass and guitar for the group & Matthew Smith (#99). The group’s live performance dynamic has been called the "New Dawning" of Manifest Frequency with the interplay between bass & drum and the creative fusion of Michael's guitar work Matt's ambient layering and Dawn's musical storytelling talents.
A careful choreography of real time recording and live looping can still be found during live shows and the group provides captivating interludes and transitions between songs as Dawn often changes guitars or moves to the keyboards. During any given show MFQ often brings numerous instruments and lighting effects to provide a multi-sensory experience. The shows are always changing and 2006 promises to be full of surprises and collaborations with other talented musicians.
Manifest Frequency's music has drawn diverse fans from folk alternative rock, jazz and triphop persuasions. In their short time together Manifest Frequency has been invited to play such festivals as Ladyfest South SXSW, and Atlantis Music Conference along with great venues from Texas to Kentucky. Most recently they received the 2005 Southern Voice Reader's Choice Award for Best Atlanta Female Musicians and were the host coordinators for the 2005 Atlanta GoGirlsMusicFest.
MFQ's music/lyrics reflect the vision of embracing diversity and overcoming oppression. They are active in various organizations such as Human Rights Campaign. In addition to being full time touring musicians Dawn holds a PhD in psychology owns a private practice X-MINDS, and is founder of Frequency Rising Records. Michael Levine is a producer/engineer at APC Studios and is a touring musician himself. |
