These days it's hard out here for a rapper. Being lyrical is not enough. You have to make up the complete package. You have to look the part act the part, and be the part. The girls have to love you and the guys have to want to be you. You have to have that swagger energy, attitude and talent all combined into the perfect package to make today's rap star. Now Brooklyn’s very own Milo Don has exactly what it takes to lead New York back to its forefront. For a couple year now the South has been dominating rap charts and rap singles all leading hand in hand to help each other take there city to Higher Heights while New York has been battling against each other.
Now what does that show about a movement ‘’New York is at its stubborn roll because of ‘’Haters’’ and people wanting to be in a position they think takes a day’’ words directly from Milo himself as he sits up to explain more. ‘’You can’t fulfill Jay-Z or Biggie’s shoes in a day that’s a lifetime of working hard and going hard.’’ Now we all know that when people find interest in a talent that they see fit to take the lead they stick with that talent throughout thick n thin as long as the that talent gives the people more than they expect. Milo Don! This artist is a severe problem to the rap game.
Born Matthew in Queens and raised in Brooklyn he has had his shares and visions of a greater success. Raised by his grandparents on both sides Mother and Father he has learned a lot. ‘’Coming from a family that has been around here and there has been a real experience but remember a family has a family so at the end where do you stand. My life isn’t peachy cream at all. I’ve been through the struggle after my grandparents moved back to Jamaica; I was living with people other than family Strangers! Life with strangers isn’t fun at all when it comes down to. I was always smart but at the same time stubborn as hell because I wanted to do me growing up a bit to fast because I was living that life. Every child dreams of living with there mother and father but unfortunate that hasn’t been my luck or majority of kids luck out here. I’m doing this music for my little brother this is why I go so hard I have to go hard for him to help him out music is me!’’
‘’I followed in my older brother footsteps but took a smarter path by manipulating my competition and grinding ways you wouldn’t imagine. Some people call me grimey maybe I am, but in the streets it’s either you or them and if they are not with you they are surely against you.’’ Milo explains that his life has been a rough road to where he is going now but it still isn’t over until her reaches his ‘’Higher Heights’’ he stresses to explain. Being apart of a gang is one of an adolescents nightmare something they don’t want to be apart of but then again when everyone is doing it why not right? No! ‘’Being in a gang isn’t cool and this is what these younger ones needs to understand. If you don’t know the real reason for joining a gang the purpose of a gang the definition of a gang then don’t put your life in harms way. There is a risk of being in harms way because that life but being in a gang is a greater risk. Be smart and be a one man band with people who respect you for who you are and not what you pretend to be. I don’t regret nothing in my life but things could have been done differently.’’
Milo Don is surely someone to take heed to and notice because the boy is the truth. By the swag and the words and context presented you can tell the kid is just one of those who had to do what they had to do to survive. Life is survival of the fittest and you have to live life the way you think you should live it. Traveling from Brooklyn to London he has had his shares of other lifestyles and thought processes. From kicking it with London’s finest musicians to being hungrier for this rap game. ‘’I been rapping since I could remember and I have proof. When I was about 9 10 me and my older brother used to imitate us getting a record deal. Back then we used to copy Mase and Puffy. Nas was always a person we looked up to from the beginning but we used to copy Mase and Puffy all the time. I used to be in a rap group called ‘’Critical Acts’’ consisting of me and my home boy Davon a.k.a D-rugs who died in 04 which crushed my dreams because he was a brother to me and we did everything together that homeboys did from girls to hustling, to banging out competition. After that I hooked up with a producer and mogul named Tim who had a vision for me and my boy and had major connects with some A&R’s on some labels but he died so like it crushed the dream and on top of that I had got shot so I couldn’t finish high school and was sent to England to cool down because cops wouldn’t let me breath.
‘’In London I recorded tracks with a big producer named Ren who had his own productions called Ruffnecks Productions and a producer name Cazzie-T who was in a big name crew called The West Wing. Ren also had a vision for me and wanted to break me in the UK but I wasn’t focused and hungry to go back home. Cazzie-T was the master mind behind the beats that Milo is delivering his determined lyrics over. Eventually I learned a lot about music over there and then I came home and then it was history from then on. I was in a DJ crew called Xsytment sounds who was a big name in Brooklyn playing at teen parties until we landed a gig on a radio station called 103.1 Bashment Radio. Though Djing was fun and good I wanted more so I said I have to do music again and this time I wanted to go harder. So I hit the studio. I got noticed by a guy name Jeff who was a big promoter and had already had his two companies Gudlyfe Productions and All or Nothin Entertainment.’’ Jeff was eager to hear what kind of product Milo can make so he put him top the test and told him go and make a banger and then contact him when he was ready. Milo got in the studio called King Sage Studio and delivered the deal.
Jeff was astonished and was ready to get on the ball and put the kid out him and his DJ K-Swift. While they are backing up this kid in his project saying he is right for the part and would play it out correctly as the streets and world should watch out for him. Milo has a single out now called ‘’Don’t Hate Me’’ which delivers swag and style and a chopped and screwed hook by Nas Milo’s Idol and mentor he says. The myspace feedback is going real well at the moment while myspacers add him and enjoy the song. The song was noticed by a radio personnel at the BCAT late night show called Sparks from a Brooklyn promoter crew Young Legends they was eager to know who this person was and had to call him in for an interview. The friend request pile up and the song hits gain momentum and exposure. We still have to see where the kid is heading and is he really what he says he is and if he can really deliver New York. Remember he hails from the home of Biggie and Jay where all the hard entertainment comes from. Is New York Dead or Alive?
