Jazz and more Jazz and Gospel Music are my favorite Genres to listen to and perform. However I do love the music of Brahms Strauss, Wagner and William Grant-still.

Van-Anthoney Hall
Tenor
Tenor Van-Anthoney Hall currently serves as music director at St. Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Decatur Illinois. He holds a Master of Music in voice performance from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina A&T State University. He has had the pleasure of working with the Greensboro Opera Dallas Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Houston Ebony Opera companies and Virgina Tech respectively. His vocal credits include opera/theatre performances in the Marriage of Figaro Tosca, Blue Renaissance of African stage Aien’t Misbehavin’, Porgy and Bess, Black Nativity, The Consul and the Merry Widow. His concert credits include faculty and regional recitals of Spirituals and art songs by black American composers to include Spiritual Swings In the Words of Langston and I Too Sing America. In addition Van has been the recipient of artist grants from the Arts council of Greater Baton Rouge (2001) and from The Louisiana Division of the Arts (2001).
Van-Anthoney a former Professor of Voice in the division of Visual and Performing Arts at Southern University in Baton Rouge is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research interest is in the areas of Curriculum Theory and Aesthetic Education.
Van’s most recent music project includes performing and recording with his Jazz ensemble VANISM. With its point of origin in Dallas Texas, Vanism has performed for Artist for Amnesty at Southern Methodist University-Dallas Texas along with performances Au Prive in Paris and Bordeux France.
On February 18th [Highlighting Black History], St. Peter’s A.M.E. Church will host its Inspirational Spoken Word featuring Vanism who will present Hymns and Spirituals in “swing fashion”. Music enthusiasts and critics have characterized Van’s vocals and rhythmic approach which pushes the envelope of gospel to the realm in true Bop tradition and has been likened to be the Betty Carter/Al Jareau of Gospel…..
