For a solo artist collaboration is the art of letting go losing control, and finding it again in someone else's vision.
Set for release this spring Stop/Start will be Toronto singer/songwriter Wendy Leung's first studio album. Recorded at Chemical Sound this 10-song disc expands upon the foundation of Wendy’s musical prowess – a searing blend of piano vocals and raw emotion. Together with her band and producers Dean Marino and Jason Sadlowski she has created a collection of heartfelt personal songs with an upbeat pop/rock sensibility.
Wendy dabbled in songwriting throughout her childhood and teenage years. An independent high school project lead to her first self-produced album A Place to Start in 2000. Three years later her second independently produced album This Time, included a few songs with band instrumentation introducing audiences to a new side of Wendy's music and Wendy to some new friends.
While playing live to support the second album the songs on Stop/Start began to develop coming to life with each performance. With David Stein (of Key Witness) on guitar Andrew Haust on drums and Scott Andrews (of Howl) on bass the focus was becoming less on piano and more on developing a vibrant and full pop/rock sound. The result is an album with a number of catchy songs like Dear Edison and Better atmospheric gems like Hollowed and a few intimate soul-baring moments, as in Me Without You.
