Hi everyone, My name is Dwight Thompson, president of World City Music. I hope you like the music on our albums. It's different...... and that's good..... Being Independent is being different. It's about being You. Being yourself. So take our music home with you. You'll discover new things each time you listen.
As a producer for my own label, I have the opportunity to choose the artists I want to work with. I always look for artists that have their own sound. My job is to bring that sound out. It's the part of the music business I like the most.
I've included a bit of information about my background and influences. I hope you find it interesting.

Musically speaking, one of the first artists that I can recall making a profound impression on me was the great Italian tenor Mario Lanza. As a kid I saw the movie musical "The Student Prince" . Mario's powerful smooth vocals in that movie just blew my mind. The gospel of Mahalia Jackson and Harry Belafonte 's Carribean music also struck home in those elementary years. In my early teens I discovered Jimmy Hendricks Cream, Crosby Stills and Nash and Wilson Pickett. I was also influenced by Nina Simone Carmen McRae, and Dionne Warwick. ("Anyone Who Had A Heart" "Walk On By") I can go on and on. I'm a big fan of World Music. I like South African singer Miriam Makeba Jamaica's Bob Marley, Oom Khartom, the Mother of Arabic music and Marinella the greatest Greek Diva. I'm looking forward to discovering new music from all over the world.

Without a question I've been most influenced, from an early age, by the ability of people to care for others. Fortunately, the prime example were my parents, but I also discovered it in complete strangers. I went to elementary school in Japan. When I was eight years old I was accidently struck by a man on a mo-ped. The old Japanese man who hit me was bleeding and broken but his main concern was for my welfare. I was o.k. but I'll never forget that moment. The genuine compassion and concern in his eyes as he ignored his own obvious injuries in his concern for my well being. I've also been influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, Che Guevara, Malcom X, Ghandi, Patrice Lumumba, the best of various religions and numerous writers and philosophers.
