Progressive African American Sister who shares her passion for life her vision, and at times her humor through her music. Her CD "Water Woman: Organic Flow," celebrates the uniquely organic process through which the tracks were created. Imakhu is a hand drummer/percusionist vocalist, master storyteller, poet/spoken word artist, sometime rhythm guitarist. Imakhu describes her music as Nu Afrakan Eclectic/Pagan. She has also found enterprising use of her percussion collection to compensate for her small hands and body frame (i.e. substituting a kdang for a djun djun and timpani). Imakhu also implements non-traditional playing of her instruments for the sake of creative musicality. As a composer Imakhu creates pleasing melodics while also employing atypical meters & rhythmic patterns and occasional dissonance as sound healing techniques. As a vocalist Imakhu's rich voice and wide range stems from her early gospel roots and formal vocal training.
All vocals guitar & drums/percussion are performed by Imakhu Mwt Shekemet; additional drums/percussion by Rahman Amir on "Ancestral Waters," "Ashe! (Ase!);" Violin by Carlos Santiago.
Imakhu Mwt Shekemet is also the Queen Mother and Elder High Priestess of an Afrakan Kemetic/Metaphysical shrine and is a keeper of the sacred Wise Woman (Rehu-t) traditions. Her upcoming CD is called "Confessions of a Nubian Witch." |
