WE ARE FOLKIES! We appreciate the common things, common folks. Just regular people doing the best they can with what they have. Our world has become so busy, so hectic, so technological. And it's all fine and good and has it's place; however, there is something to be said about less is more. Sometimes it can be refreshing to go back to our roots. Unfiltered voices, unplugged strings, un-amped music, untrained music makers, heretofore unpublished works.
I (Ruthie) am fascinated by various cultures, beliefs, belief systems, religions, arts, dance, folk medicine, and music. I suppose you could say that I am fascinated by humanity. I enjoy anything that is good, and noble, and true. Fox is into pharmacopia, history (World War II, in particular) and militaria. We both enjoy "treasure hunting" of all sorts - be it garage sales, flea markets, auctions, digging in the dirt, or searching out new music. We both get a lot of joy from finding something special and new to us.
We both write music and play guitar. We have about 50 original songs between us. We are basically folk singers, folk song writers. Neither of us have any special knowledge or training. We are both self-taught on the guitar. When we found this site, we were in a sort of "funk"...more a case of being frustrated with ourselves over not having done anything with our music. This site has truly inspired us.

I think Bob Dylan is a gift to the world. I don't believe that any other artist has had such a profound impact on our society contributed so much toward the creation of new music managed to endure 50 years in the music industry (and all that that entails) plus actually lived to see himself garner legendary status. Amazing.
Other favorites would include: John Prine James Taylor, Van Morrison, Buffalo Springfield, Leo Kottke, Cat Stephens, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, the Moody Blues, Jefferson AIRPLANE, Gordon Lightfoot, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, the Hollies, The Yardbirds, Roy Orbison, the Righteous Brothers, Mama's and the Papa's Crosby, Stills, Nash, Neil Young, the Byrds, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, especially, John Lennon, and George Harrison, Eric Burdon, the Doors, REM, Tom Petty, Traffic, Rolling Stones, Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground Nick Drake, and the 13th Floor Elevators it has been reported that Fox and Ruthanna have been seen dancing around the house singing to their dogs while listening to the fun and talented B-52s And then we have the Butthole Surfers, Alanis Morrisette, Tracey Chapman, Sarah McLaughlin, Jewel, Sugar Ray, and Lenny Kravitz, Stevie and Jimmy Vaughn and my good friend Lou Ann Barton Dear friends Firesighn theater Jethro Tull, Queen, The Verve, All The Mississippi Delta Bluesmen and the legendary Robert Johnson of course (we have an old lp of his from the 50s) and also Santana, and Black Sabbath, recalling our precious Ozzie. We would be remiss not to mention the classics such as Mozart, Chopin, and Bethoven. This list could go on for quite some time.

Our favorite show is definately House. And we get a kick out of those Amazing Videos. CSI Las Vegas too - we like the bug guy. Fox says T.V. Is mostly mindless drivel with some damn good commercials in between.

Ruthanna enjoys listening to music making music, discovering new music. Mainly I enjoy reading nonfiction but as far as fiction is concerned I'm a big fan of Nathaniel Hawthorne. I like poetry that's NOT all lovey dovey gooey ooey. My favorite poet is actually my son Josh - he has some great stuff (I like to think he inherited the gift from me!) I spend an incredible amount of time just thinking contemplating. One day, I'm going to have everything all figured out...surely. I actually like being alone alot. I also love my garage sales interior decorating, and car races. But making music with Fox is the best.
Fox enjoys studying Pharmacopia and W.W.2 militaria mostly. I have a captured German flag from Bielburg(sp?) airport that is filled with the signatures of the Allied men who liberated that area. I love soccer and hunting arrowheads and reading but mostly I love making music with my wife and other musicians and listening to the great music I've found here on this site.

Fox- I have some radical views. Koyaanisqatsi -Hopi word for Life out of Balance...as I believe our world is, but "everything turn, turn, turn. I do love life and the ability to create music.
Ruth- I actually have some very conservative views, but no one ever seems to consider me a "conservative". Like Fox, I tend to be a bit counter-cultural. My main personal view is: It's never too late. Try again. And again. Get up, dust yourself off. Try again. Get up. Try again. And Pray...a lot.

Life itself has probably taught us more than anything. And we continue to learn, even though we may have to repeat things a few times before we finally get it right. |

Despite some higher education, mostly Ruthanna and I were educated through the school of hard knocks and have learned a lot through personal failures. |
